That's what I always thought about Falcon ... good synth but not that great libs.
And UVI doesn't deliver itself, when it comes to libs. Many (or most) libs seem to be secondary uses of existing ones rather than truly original Falcon libs.

 

It's a delicate balance between the quality of the libraries and the quality of the player. Good libraries can and most likely will keep you from abandoning a bad player - cough Kontakt cough - or Play! (Play was never as bad as people claimed - the main issue was it not handling a lot of Keyswitches very well - the slow loading could be addressed by excluding Play and its libraries from antivirus scans and it made a night and day difference) but conversely a good player alone isn't enough to make people use it. UVI is the best example for this but HALion is a lot better than what people claim. I don't think anyone uses HALion for anything other than Iconica (and padshop pro) and I'm guilty of that too more often than not. And speaking of Iconica and Orchestral Tools, their SINE player is just utter garbage and the libraries are absolutely nowhere near good enough to actually carry the player. Thank GOD that Iconica is on HALion instead, it's extremely useful as a support library for EW Hollywood/Symphonic Orchestra.

But yeah, you get the idea. Falcon does have a few neat libraries but they're VERY few (talking about both official and 3rd party ones) and most of them are priced very uncompetitively even if you look at them in a bubble.

Still, it could be worse. Much worse. Go look at the modern day VSL. It's an empty husk of its former self with a price that's not even laughable, it's outright infuriatingly insane. At least the Synchron player seems alright if not very.. confused about its UI design.

Still there's an advantage. You enroll for a couple months then disengage.
now you can use all cracked versions and nobody can't tell you anything, whatever track you release , you can tell them you made it precisely during that period... Same goes with all subscription models like EW...

Same went for me and Plugin Alliance. I had almost everything from them buying patiently at the lowest prices.
I must not have been the only complaining about their sub model as they now offer the PA forever sub which is perfect for me. I get every recently released plugin . One per month for 30$. And it'll be mine when i 'll cancel..
So be patient and you'll probably see an offer for the regular and ancient customers who have almost everything.

To tell the thruth, i have a friend at one of the company that makes these subscription model. Marketing department. Basically, it works as the free first dose of whatever is your poison from your dealer. When you're hooked, you can't get rid of it. Your tracks are entangled with all these subscription plugins/sounds.
That's what they're counting on to make them assured of a steady and continous flow of cash.

was listening to a true crime podcast situated in the uk. was taken aback by an ad for some app that finds and cancels subscriptions (think mostly streaming kind) for you cuz apparently there's a problem with people subscribed to so much shit, that they're hemorrhaging money because of things they may have forgotten they have and/or it seems companies also make it real difficult to unsubscribe (main reason for the app iirc).

these software companies make it out to be like, "only $9.99 or $19.99 a month!" except that's probably one of many subscriptions someone has to be shelling out for and it's only gonna get worse.

i'm old school geezer and have a visceral hatred for software subscriptions

I dont understand this... why are past customers who outright own the software mad they can't LEASE the software? shit makes no sense... It's not like you get some deal on buying the software if you are subscribed.... everything is still "retail" priced.. I guess people want to own nothing and think they'll be happy

 

if all companies and governments have their way you will own absolutely nothing at all and all your earnings will go to perpetually leasing and paying out, sounds more like a form of slavery. If I can't own it I don't want it. I don't rely or need software to be a musician I play my instruments, my 100% offline music PC is plenty powerful enough for all my needs runs on win 7 64 ultimate, I have all the software that I need and require, which isn't very much, I don't collect every piece of software like some others, also some of my favorite software is freeware. I have backups of everything I use, my PC works flawlessly so why update. If it broke down or ever burned out I have a spare. If I want to go online or try out new software I have a net PC just for that. I don't give a damn about leased software, that's just sucker bait to keep you hooked.

That's a bit too sweeping, there are not the corporations and not the governments.
That's a little too black and white. There are a lot of shades of gray in between.

This statement by Mr. Schwab as spokesman for the WEF is not set in stone, and it doesn't necessarily have to happen the way the elites imagine it. But what is happening at the moment is this:
We are becoming increasingly impoverished due to higher energy prices, higher food prices and inflation - in other words, money destruction. This leads to the fact that we already have hardly any money to buy anything additional.

So the standard of living will probably decrease by half. Since the companies of course want to continue to earn money from us, they face the new demands and introduce the model of leasing or renting.

It is the massive loss of purchasing power that will change the economy. In fact, a large mass of people do not have enough income to even be able to pay for something like software. They can't lease or rent anything either.

This large mass needs more income to be able to pay for Apple's products or the leasing rates. Therefore this big mass of customers is with other companies (smiley) like: Team R2R, Team V.R that means they use free software. In addition, the black market is always flourishing because of too little income. Software can be hacked - hardware cannot.

 

...You can still buy the software though so why the tirade?

 

UVI products are amazing, I took the newly released SonicPass since May for Falcon and the Soundbanks and the effects. I thought I had finally found the dream VST, wow the sonic quality and interface is outstanding, so many layers, rich textures, even ethnic librairies included too, the whole package you need for modern electronic music... no competition out there.

BUT it's ruining my workflow so far, they have a serious issue where ARM 64 Falcon isn't yet 100% stable with M1 Macs/Ableton, and it keeps crashing Ableton when I use multiple instances of Falcon in a project.

It's really ruining it, I can't work like this. You won't even be able to open your project anymore after the crash. You have to manually restore the stems, which is not a viable option (plus it will keep crashing again after the next save anyway), since I need my return channels too, and they're gone of course.

I've been in contact every day with UVI support for the past 3 weeks, they're very available but so far they're investigating my Ableton crash reports, we have no solution yet.

It's really a major issue, can you imagine if every M1 user is having this problem?? Total waste.

Problem is 80% of my tracks right have quite a few instances of Falcon and rely on it.

I'm really hoping they're gonna fix this.

 

I cannot imagine most m1 users with your Falcon problem, because they do not have your Ableton being installed problem. The Audio Unit format plugin crashes Logic never. and I do mean never.

It's an Ableton-UVI issue, not a Logic one.

I don't use Logic though, I'm not gonna change years of DAW workflow, habits, knowledge and settings just for that.

 

I tried the .AU, same outcome. It has nothing to do with .AU or .VST, it's an internal Falcon issue with Ableton being stupid about it.

I love Ableton so much but this crash thingie is the worst lol. Although since 11 I never had anymore issues, it still amazes me they don't fix this thing still in 2022. But ok I'll be gentle, ARM transition was quite a move to adapt to for all the industry and developers.
