"White Lightning" is a song written by the rockabilly artist J. P. Richardson, best known by his stage name, the Big Bopper. The song was recorded by American country music artist George Jones and released as a single in February 1959. On April 13, 1959, Jones' version was the first number-one single of his career.

    "Rose Garden"
(sometimes titled "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden") is a song written in 1967 by American singer-songwriter Joe South. It was first recorded by Billy Joe Royal on his 1967 studio album Billy Joe Royal Featuring "Hush". Versions by South himself and Dobie Gray appeared shortly after the original. Gray's version became a minor hit in North America in 1969.
In 1970, Lynn Anderson recorded "Rose Garden" after hearing Joe South's version. However, Anderson's producer rejected the song's recording because he did not consider it to be a female tune. After much convincing, the song was eventually recorded and released as a single by Columbia Records. The song became a crossover hit after it reached both the American Billboard country and pop charts. "Rose Garden" also became a major hit worldwide, reaching the number one spot in multiple countries.

"Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson that was recorded in 1969 by Ray Stevens before becoming a number one hit on the Billboard US Country chart for Johnny Cash.

"Galveston" is a song written by Jimmy Webb and popularized by American country music singer Glen Campbell who recorded it with the instrumental backing of members of The Wrecking Crew.[2] In 2003, this song ranked number 8 in CMT's 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music. Campbell's version of the song also went to number 1 on the country music charts.[3] On other charts, "Galveston" went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the "Easy Listening" charts.[4] It was certified gold by the RIAA in October 1969.[5]

My favourite song of all time, "Age Of Aquarius" by the 5th Dimension, spent six weeks at No. 1 in the spring of 1969. The song itself is a medley of two songs from the Musical "Hair", "Aquarius" and "Let The Sunshine In."

I Don’t Want To Talk About It – Rod Stewart was no1 29th May 1977 and although the banned Sex pistols God Save The Queen was left blank in the charts at number 2 actually outsold Rod Stewart and should have been number 1 this wasn't allowed being the Queens silver jubilee so the greatest number 1 be it unofficially was the Sex pistols God Save The Queen.

I don't mean to be cynic, but I think this provides some context in the mainstream music industry. Pop is great, but charts will only tell half the story.
