Not sure if this is accurate but I'm pretty sure you can't. I've experienced a behaviour where a version of cracked kontakt wasn't properly installed (my mistakes) and it resulted ALL the cracked libraries in demo mode. So I presume it's the Kontakt itself has to be unlocked so it can accept those libraries. Hundreds of the libraries run without problem on cracked Kontakt even it is installed from factory ISO (source). Certain libraries also need modification (or crack) to be fully unlocked to be used with the cracked Kontakt. To answer your question I'm 95% sure you can't run those libraries (and expansions) with legit Kontakt, atleast a large sum of them.

There are other benefits by purchasing legit Kontakt, using free libraries and slowly getting those libraries you need with proper planning and budget but yeah you already know that. I own older version of Komplete and few NI plugins, libraries etc and totally abandoned them all because of my greed but you don't have to listen to me.

No such thing as a cracked library. Only cracked Kontakt, which is what you must use.

    1. With the cracked versions of Kontakt you normally can use all "non owned" libraries.
1 a. R2R cracked Kontakt another way so you need R2Rs keygen to enable Kontakt libraries you want to use. If R2R doesn't supply the lib in the keygen it won't work. Thus I find the crack sub-optimal.
    2. You can install and use Native Access to manage libraries (real account not recommended)
    3. With the original Version of Kontakt you won't be able to use "non owned" libraries.
    4. It is possible to use original and cracked Kontakt.exe side by side, but you need to rename one of them e.g. into "Kontakt_cracked.exe" (before installing the other one) and set a link to it by hand.
    5. The VST versions of Kontakt can be legit OR cracked, but not side by side in all combinations with VST/VST3/DAW.

Result: If you want to use "non owned" libraries, it makes no sense to install a legit version of Kontakt as you won't be able to use it in all constellations. Cracked versions of both Kontakt and Komplete work flawlessly with "non owned" libraries as EXE, VST, VST3.

This part isn't actually true, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean (if so, apologies).

It might depend on O/S on DAW, but I use Win10 + Reaper, and I own the full Kontakt, have that installed, using my legit (owned) libraries, and I also have the portable Kontakt installed, which I use for the non-owned libraries. You can use them both at the same time.

I believe like the standalone Kontakt, the .dlls have to be renamed. Thankfully, the portable version for Windows by Danilov or Bobdule already has the vsts renamed to "Kontakt Portable xxx.xxx". I also go another step further and rename it in Reaper.. this just affects the display name, but makes it easier for me to distinguish. Can't speak for Mac, or the R2R install. Kontakt is maybe the only application where I don't prefer R2R releases.

I wanted to keep it relatively simple. I edited the post for that.

Cubase for instance doesn't care about filenames much in VST3.

I found few Kontakt libs that still in Demo even when thousand of others would run properly in the latest Bobdule Kontakt.

few month ago, I tried this one but no luck, even 2 times download - Wavesfactory - Mercury Piano

I think for the past 3 years, I found atleast 10 of them. I don't remember their names anymore. Some library will return to Demo after you Batch Resave, that means, some libs still need a little modification (crack) for them to function even on cracked Kontakt.

    Sorry, I didn't get you're on MacOS.
But yes, I think so. Cubase will most likely act the same on both OSs.

I don't know all DAWs, but what I read, most of them are influenced by the spelling of the file name. So it is sometimes possible to use different versions of the same plugin in a DAW, if they differ only in the file name.

With Cubase it is different, especially with VST3, which I only use if possible.
The plugin name, purpose and version is noted in the plugin and that's all Cubase uses. The file name is irrelevant.
Based on this data Cubase decides if it is an effect or an instrument and so assigns the plugins to
a category. This can be organized differently if needed via the Plugin Manager for both VST versions. That's consisten!

Ableton Live organizes all plugins first into VST and VST3 and then within VST3 simply by manufacturer name. VST (2) on the other hand is sorted by file name and it is possible to create subdirectories.
That here two procedures are used is already inconsistent, but the sorting by manufacturer is absolutely impractical with many plugins and cannot be changed at the moment. It makes Live usage more complex when it comes to VST3 plugins.

Since Steinberg developed VST3, it can be assumed that their software adheres best to the intended working method. It can also be assumed that other manufacturers will gradually adopt this way of working, as it is simply more logical and reduces complexity.

Back to Kontakt, this means that you can't use different VST3 versions (e.g. legit and cracked).
