I particularly like this album by The Midnight as it has a darker tone to it, musically.

Is there a technical term for the bass line that comes in at 3:18 on the second track:

I quite like how hard edged it is, does anyone know if there's a technical term or tutorial or something like that about how to get a similar sound?

simple lfo on the cutoff Filter with straight attack and depending on your likes straight decay
a "on - of" square of sorts. possible with any sound

 

So basically something like this person is demonstrating in Omnisphere? In the general sense?

Also, what's you're guess on the basic waveform, like a sawtooth? At some point I'll probably be able to guess that by ear . . .

I have a preset for serum that could work (check out the preview in this post).
Could use some tiny tweeks with an EQ & adding some whitenoise for the attack.

A lot of synth presets of this style/category bass are called Sequenced Bass. If you were browsing by tags or something, you'd find it there.

Filtering and cutoff aside, the engineer has also EQ'd the attack point of it which is cool and it is either doubled within itself or with something else to my ears.
I tried the same 16th pattern perpetually on a C in Arturia Analog lab and it was pretty quick and easy to get close to it by combining a few sounds using what already exists in the BASS section. If you do not have it look for it on the sister site. Otherwise, as someone suggested, contact them and ask for the patch. You can do the same thing in Omnisphere, Iris, Pigments, Massive and many other synths.
