There's literally nothing special in Ozone4 (I also lifted the preset from its MWTMs). There's no particular sound (I hope you switched from analog crossovers that are phasey AF), there's no particular processing that only Ozone4 can offer. Multiband is not supposed to be adding 0.01% of the sound, it supposed to be adding a very audible 1-3% of clarity (due to continuously balancing the bands and hence continuous unmasking).

Even geniuses have wrong perspectives at times. The stance on Ozone4 is Joshua's.

Actually, now that I think about it, it was a good way for him to justify the use of a "magic sauce" (same way some hardware engineers made others believe whatever hardware piece was "THE sauce") when in reality the sauce is simply how good of a mixer we are

Most of the knowledge is held by experienced mixer engineers or sound engineers, but it is difficult to transfer this to the home PC. You notice that most likely when you use plugins from Waves where then the world-famous mixers have made presets. Most or almost everything sounds bad on the home PC, this is due to the cheap equipment and the poor room.

You just CAN'T have presets for eq, compressor, saturator, channel strip - and this makes for a good 90% of the final sound. You need to be able to discern if something is missing, what's missing and how to achieve it. That's experience from hundreds of mixes which nowdays no one seems to want to earn, just chasing for tHe bEsT PLuGIn tO mAKe MusIC slAP!

The only knowledge that best engineers keep for themselves is "taste". But only because is impossible to quantify it and teach it to others. (of course, as an intern in a studio, or a collaborator, another one can learn taste from the experienced engineer/s)

So getting back to waves: if you have the taste and ears and monitoring to know what you're after, if it requires 3 eqs and 8 CLA-76 you will put on the channel strip 3 eqs and 8 CLA-76 and GET THAT SOUND

I agree it's not some kind of magic. He's made a lot of money so far and is now working with a high-end converter. But it can be a good starting point for a mixbus. I explored those presets in depth. izotope has not only changed the ui design, but also the coding itself over the 5 and 6 versions. The frequency response is completely different. It has been maintained since version 6, and joshua is also the reason for sticking with version 4 for that reason.

And now go to 9 and adjust it until you hear no significant difference when you blind test with 5. Thing that someone like Joshua can't do without losing a shitload of money for time lost not mixing

And another new "miracle plugin" that again promises something that cannot exist. It cannot replace what the craft of mixing and mastering is, which is lots of listening, lots of practice, lots of learning and understanding.

The money for new plugins, which only fills the coffers of the manufacturers, should be put in a savings pot and at some point commission a professional studio to get the best out of the mix.

The hope that a better newer plugin will get you a better mix dies last.

Forget the factory presets, learn with the manual how your plugin works and save your own presets.

These threads below are not "probably", these are "THE" most important two threads of my music life. Changed for the better the way I mix over the course of a good couple of years of intense listening efforts and applying the ideas that John Hanes is so generous to share:

    https://gearspace.com/board/q-a-with-engineer-john-hanes
    https://gearspace.com/board/high-end/1213742-serban-ghenea-mixes-all-itb.html

If you really have in you the nature of being a good mixing engineer (or producer for that matter), with the proper integration of the information above and patience to build your listening skills, you definitely will. On the other side, if you think the information in those threads is incomplete or still think you need more tutorials, I don't think you're meant to be a mixer. That means you're not able to put 1+1 together and connect the shitload of dots that John already shared there and a good mixer needs to be able to do that. Better know what kind of person you are, and move on to something you can do and enjoy.

Absolutely to both statements and also knowing what needs to be removed before adding anything is equally, if not more important than simply adding anything.

    "don't touch a thing
By default, The God Particle’s settings are exactly how Jaycen has them set on every single one of his mixes since 2021."
So the controls are just for decoration. And he's in fact our employee.
