Ok, I understand the confusion, but just get the display: it will work.

Then consider the GPU afterwards, but only if you really need it. Do not care about the interface (HDMI/DisplayPort) specifics.

As BEAT16 said, you might get a quality cable with your monitor. I got a good quality DiplayPort cable with my 27" Dell, also DVI cable. Dell monitors come with incredibly useful monitor stand and a USB hub. You might consider buying a 32" Dell with IPS screen.

I also read through all the tests and reviews before I bought my first 4K monitor. So many opinions and products. Sometime after 2-3 days a product crystallizes out and then you make a purchase decision, which you then hopefully not regret.

Now checking out more models, specs and pricing.. the base checklist I am going off of is:

    32"
    2k-144hz/4k-60-120hz
    2560x1440p
    DP 1.4/HDMI 2.1
    ISP/VA
    1-3ms
    LED or OLED?
    HDR-10?
    RGB?

-what am I missing on this list?
flippin eck theres a lot to sift through and consider. I just cant help myself :trolls: buying any old 32" whatever the specs are, just based on price alone, seems reckless and risky.

4K Ultra HD Monitor: The Future Standard

A 4K UHD monitor delivers the most detailed resolution with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The typeface is displayed razor-sharp on this one, with no discernible pixel structures. This makes the 4K devices attractive for users who often work long and intensively with office documents and edit videos or photos. But a display with 4K UHD resolution also shows its full advantages when surfing the Internet. In the long run, 4K monitors will become the new standard as soon as they become more attractively priced, because the vast majority of current computers and laptops can now handle them without any problems.

    WQHD monitor: The price-performance winner
A monitor with Wide-Quad-High-Definition resolution, WQHD or QHD for short, sometimes also called 2K, offers about a third more surface than a display with Full-HD resolution. This places WQHD monitors between the modern 4K Ultra HD and the established Full HD devices in terms of price and technology. A WQHD monitor is the best choice for occasional home office work. Thanks to the high resolution, several program windows can be viewed on the display in parallel, for example to surf the Internet and display a Word document at full size in parallel.

Full-HD monitor: The best choice for movies and games
On the other hand, if you mainly play games or watch movies, a good Full-HD monitor will probably suffice. This screen resolution has been the de-facto standard for years and is closely intertwined with various multimedia formats. For example, Blu-ray movies are played back in this resolution, and the majority of movies from the well-known streaming providers, such as Amazon Prime, Disney+, Netflix and Apple TV, are also in Full HD. A 32-inch Full HD monitor is therefore the best choice for price-conscious multimedia fans. However, at least WQHD or the much finer 4K resolution is recommended for intensive home office work.

    Rank 2 - 4K UHD Monitor: LG 32UN550-W 8 from 336,89 €) www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-32un550-w-uhd-monitor
    LG 32UN550-W 32-inch 4K UHD Monitor

This is an affordable 4K Ultra-HD monitor with a 32-inch screen diagonal that doesn't have to sacrifice important ergonomic features. Like the Dell S3221QS from rank 1 in our recommendation list, the LG monitor uses an HDR10-capable Vertical Alignment Display panel. It delivers an excellent contrast of 3000:1 at a maximum brightness of 350 cd/m2 - so light-flooded work environments are no problem for LG Electronics' affordable 4K monitor.

8-bit color depth with frame rate control
The built-in VA panel offers an 8-bit color depth with additional Frame Rate Control function. This interpolation, known as FRC, achieves a color representation of 99% of the sRGB as well as 90% of the DCI-P3 color space, but it doesn't quite offer the excellent display quality as the native 10-bit capable display of the . However, this color difference is not perceptible in normal home office use, only slight gradations in color gradients might remain visible in videos. This FRC interpolation technology is used in the vast majority of consumer displays that are designed for home use.

A matte 4K display with convincing contrast values
A matte anti-reflective coating reduces annoying light reflections on the display. AMD FreeSync™ technology and a mode called Dynamic Action Sync and Black Stabilizer provide smooth and high-contrast images when used as a gaming monitor with a response time of 4 milliseconds (grey-to-grey). The maximum refresh rate of 60Hz also allows long fatigue-free use as a home office monitor. The viewing angles of the LG 32UN550-W are the usual 178° in the horizontal and vertical range.

Ergonomic: Flexible height and tilt adjustment
The LG 32UN550-W offers important ergonomic features to be able to adapt it optimally to the home workplace. Especially with a 32-inch monitor, precise positioning and adjustment is enormously important. The display can be adjusted by 11cm in height as well as tilted by 20° vertically, which offers a high degree of flexibility. The 6.7kg device can also be mounted on an alternative monitor arm or wall mount via a VESA bracket.

Digital connection options via HDMI and DisplayPort
The monitor can be connected via two HDMI sockets and one DisplayPort 1.2 socket. A suitable HDMI cable is already included in the scope of delivery. However, LG's 32UN550-W doesn't offer a practical USB hub, such as the one installed in Dell's S3221QS. The two built-in 5-watt stereo speakers are already suitable for a decent sound background. For a more voluminous sound, the audio signals can also be tapped from a 3.5 mm jack socket on the monitor, for example for external active speakers.

    Modern design with high-quality workmanship
The design language of the LG monitor is modern and minimalistic at the same time: The display is supported by a filigree silver stand. The sides and top of the monitor are almost borderless, only the bottom edge is slightly wider. The back of the LG 32UN550-W is completely white. The general material and build quality of the monitor is quite high. However, as usual in this price range, the case is largely made of plastic.

Our verdict on the LG 32UN550-W
This is a low-priced 4K UHD monitor that hardly shows any real weaknesses. Its comprehensive ergonomic features are just as convincing as the good build quality and modern design. The slightly worse color reproduction with 8-bit + FRC compared to the native 10-bit capable Dell S3221QS is also not noticeable in normal home office use. LG's monitor is therefore recommended as the most attractively priced entry-level monitor for high-resolution 4K Ultra HD display.

What you want is a descent & affordable, not cheap, monitor. There are very good 1080p office/workstation monitors. Preferably a modern display with a 16:10 ratio. Most "cheap" and lower end monitors offer only 16:9.

Lastly...Monitors are like speakers. Best to buy in person to pick something that works with your, ears & eyes.

man, I wish I could go to a store like 10 years ago and pick choose from 100 monitors in one room... alas I cannot and I am stuck guessing, or rather relying on fellas like yourself to help guide me. is 1080p a "bad word" these days? it feels like it and I want to stay far away from it.. or am I being ridiculous :dunno:

For basic audio/video work, a high refresh rate 1080p monitor is fine. If you plan on doing more, then a 4k QHD that meets true HDR specs is the way to go. Pricing, availability & personal requirements will be the deciding factors.

You are overthinking it way too much!
If you dont do high proffesional video/image editing stuff it doesnt really matter what panel you are using.
Maybe if you are a really competitive ego shooter player maybe watch out for a specific panel but besides that just choose any monitor you want.

If you think 1080p is enough go for it. Nothing wrong with that. But with a 4k one and a bigger monitor you have more "screenspace" its alot better to work with. Im using a 21:9 screen 34" (3440x1440).

just choose any monitor you want. - the cheapest mf on the planet please!

1080p is what my 10 year old monitor is still, albeit on the last fn leg, doing... and videos are good/bad mixed bag, but I cannot judge now because its faulty. I MUST get 32"

Hello @terrific!, buy yourself a large fast SSD 2TB hard disk.

You can buy a graphics card later, maybe after you have your monitor you realize that you don't need a new graphics card.
Do not buy junk, who buys cheap, buys twice.

Pick one in your spec range and move forward. It is your choice to make, not ours. We can only provide info to make that choice.
You only have yourself to complain to if the wrong choice is made.

It's a digital signal. There's no "inferior", the available bandwidth and thus max resolution/refresh rate/bit depth was known from the very beginning. If you set a DP connection at the same parameters, there's no difference.
This is wrong. HDMI has supported 4K (at 30Hz) since HDMI 1.4, which was launched back in 2009. 60Hz is supported from 2.0, released in 2013, and HDMI 2.1 (2017) supports up to 10K at 120Hz with dynamic HDR.
