UVI releases a subscription based model

    $20/mo is nothing? Maybe for you. But I want choice & flexibility if I am paying that kind of monthly fee.

    Let's see...I bought Neil Young's After The Gold Rush on 8 track when I was 12 so I could listen to it in our 12 hour drive to visit family in West Virginia in 1972, bought the album a year later when I got a Realistic stereo system for a Christmas present, needed to buy another in 1976 from wearing out the grooves in the vinyl, bought the CD in 1985 when I finally got a CD player and while drunk on Belgian beer and very stoned on Thai Stick in about 1994 on Topanga Beach dropped it in the sand and scratched the shit out of it so had to buy another (my friend Lynn also lost her car keys in the ocean that night).

    Fucking Neil Young made me pay for upgrades and replacements throughout all those years for the same exact songs. What a shitty song dev!

    that would only make sense when you are locked into a certain timeframe like the Slate subscription... This here is 25 a month cancel anytime... that means you can pay 20 dollars to use thousands of dollars of software, to see what you would actually use or if you will actually use the subscription to its full potential.. then you cancel... save up 120 dollars and make and bounce tracks with UVI sofware for 6 months... if you cant save 120 dollars over the course of couple months... how do you even feed yourself??

    Clever person. You are correct. We live in a changing world. Sure, everyone without exception will occasionally complain about something which affects us directly for the worse. This is normal. We have a choice to adapt or not. Sometimes, we do not have a choice.
    With the owner of a product we often have no choice and must like it or lump it.

    If I was in your position, I would write to support directly and voice your concerns strongly, requesting some kind of compensation on the new system.

    update :
    the UVI portal app (which is the UVI app to download the products now has big update ..Take a look at attachment


    from the look of it its more organized than before ,on each product there are 2 buttons
    Subscribe and BUY
    depending on what root you wanna go Either ( monthly subscription ) or (BUY it and own the product)

    theres also a filter in the middle of the portal as new feature

    hahaha, this really made me laugh.

    THe time of tapes was something special. I recorded a lot of my music from CDs to tape and there were a tapes, i had to redo, since they got a bit honky over time.

    Happy about mp3 now.

    You can make good music without the UVI membership. Of course, it's up to everyone how they want to make music and how much they want to spend on it. If you don't want to or can't spend money, you don't have to do without or limit yourself, because there are now so many software synthesizers with very good presets, and sample libraries are now a dime a dozen.

    Or you can get creative yourself and create your own presets. Creativity does not have to cost money.

    I think that ADDING subscription model to normal purchasing is OK - although it's more like paid DEMO for me ;)
    I don't believe in subscription models when it comes to creative apps, because I want to have an ability to tweak my projects even after many years and subscription models does not guarantee that I will be able to do that - either for financial reasons or the fact that company will not longer exist.
    I think that in this case it's not a bad move - people will have an opportunity to check all products for small amount of cash. Some of them will need them for a short period too. But for long-term musician subscriptions suck a lot - more expensive and less reliable than one-time purchase.

    If I make full use of my subscription and use uvi software on every track I would basically become a hostage. Opening an old project file properly is entirely in their hands and they will decide how much it will cost me to do so.

    I don't see this working out for UVI. The only Falcon libraries I'd actually get are the World Suite 2 (which.. doesn't even include a Suona somehow - but you do get some more exotic stuff) and Emulation II ('cause Arturia's is crap) and MAYBE the Nagoya harp. Everything else is just meh and available everywhere else one way or another.

    The only sub service that makes sense and that I know of is East West's. The Play! engine took like what, nearly 14 years to get cracked? I don't see them cracking OPUS anytime soon but I would LOVE to be proven wrong. It's a quantum leap (damn, I'm clever) from the Play engine and absolutely crushes Kontakt. Not that it's hard to do, even Play! was less insufferable than Kontakt.
    For now I'll gladly give EW 200 bucks a year. Hell, I got some old discontinued libraries on the CC+ HD I bought from Thomann and someone from EW's support team went ahead and activated them for me anyway.

    I think that the problem for many of these companies is that their existing software, as well as their competitor's, already is só good, that it is hard to come up with new things that people are willing to pay for. Music software simply got too good. So they are all switching to subscription models to survive.

    I can't remember the last time I thought: 'Well, I can't do this or that with my synthesizers'. I can do absolutely anything I can dream of with the software I currently have. The room for improvement has become very, very small, and so is the future income for these companies.

    Theses models really suck for people who do not have 100% time for making music.
    Some people for example only have little time in one month to make music since they need to make money to pay all theses subscriptions, they cant use, since they need to make money to pay them huh ?! :crazy:

    In addition, there is this endless stepping through the presets to find a suitable sound. Every few seconds the brain has to adjust to a new sound and make a decision. The older I get, the less I feel like shuffling through presets. After 20 presets I hear only a mush of music. I always save only the sounds that I really like, so I have a few sounds from each sound library that I can call up and play immediately.

    I have in the cabinet masses of CD's DVD's Bluray's with Wav files, which I have as a backup. Because what you have you have and can not be taken. The real art consists for me in the modern time to select what is good, what is not, what do I need and what not. I haven't downloaded any samples at all for some time, it's just too much. However, I have everything better organized for the overview and for the workflow.

    Less is often more.

    It's not only true for Music but almost all end user software.

    Like 2D and 3D packages. Adobe started as one of the first big vendors and I owned Adobe Master Collection back then. I stopped buying Adobe products from 2013 when they came out with the subscription.
    It was the same for 3ds max. When they started to implement subscription I stopped buing theire software.

    And most of the time you can do anything you need with the old versions. No need for an upgrade. No need of a subscription.

    This proves what you said. Innovation has come to an end. Almost no new functions that one really needs.

    yes, its what Apple does with iOS all the time.
    But replace 'software' with 'hardware' and you get what MS does. Older hardware with newer OS, nope!
    Its all about our security, of course. :rofl:
    They made all these software flaws for us and now are presenting us the medicine. New flaws. Nice! :suicide:

    I really hope that the linux... fraction gets better hard- and software support for music soon.

    No, it's because they have very, very few libraries that don't directly compete with other products and/or offer something better than said competing products.

    The synth reproductions are especially baffling, at least the "classic" ones. Why buy that M1/D-50/SQ80/DX7/whatever Roland synth people pretend to care about now when much better, much more authentic alternatives exist? (Even the EMU2, I'm pretty sure Emulator-X3 has its banks but.. yeah, it's a bitch to get working in a stable way, I'll give you that)

    There's so much seemingly random stuff too.. Again, the only library I'd personally really want is World Suite 2 just cause it offers a lot more variety than EW RA and EW SILK - even if it's not sampled as meticulously (but it's not as bad as 8DIO libraries at least lmao)

    Falcon is an excellent player and synth whose main problem is having an underwhelming sound library.
