Everything you do has a sense, even things that seem senseless to others.
I waste a lot of time coding & debugging code, sometimes more than 8h in a row and that's not even my job,
I just do it because I like it. My friends say I'm wasting my time but for me it's progress and I apply that
to several fields of wasted knowledge.

Sometimes I do pretty dorky things but even these things have a meaning cause then I know
how to do better while others don't even know about and that helps me and others in a lot of situations.
Now after years of "wasted" time, every average person asks me first about their issues just because
of my quite large repertoire of "useless" knowledge and my maverick ways to solve them quickly
and that kinda makes me proud sometimes... and often money follows automatically because
people tend to pay much (even if you don't ask for it) if they save some time because of you.

So if you're feeling you're wasting your time, just don't give a shit and continue,
it might help you later in life.

I believe we are never wasting time. Although it might seem that way, it’s only on the surface of the conscious mind.


On the other hand, if we think of the subconscious mind, for that which time doesn’t exist, it’s like recording and storing, passing and processing every stimulus and information we get, shaping neuronal pathways in the brain and constantly acquiring data. No time wasted.

Not everything we do has to materialize into extraordinary success so we can feel productive.

So waste time, for fun, or when you are bored. Thinking seems like not wasting time right? It is. Right now you are wasting time thinking about why we waste our time hoping we can waste less time - a waste of time, IMO.

it's interesting thought,
what I noticed is, with rise of internet and various " media consumption" platforms like YouTube, Facebook etc.. people are able to consume much more information, almost as if brains are being trained to listen/watch/read faster,
personally, I'm watching most video tutorials, discussions, debates etc.. at 1.25 or 1.5 speed because else they feel too slow, and on top of that I prefer reading articles than listening to podcasts which again feel slower than reading on my own (and no, I'm not hyped by drugs or some other stuff),
and look at various handheld always-online devices like phones, people are not wasting their attention span,
yes it's true majority of social networks content is waste of time, but the speed at which people are able to process those is truly amazing

 

I doubt if even a fraction of the implications will be widely appreciated - pity.

It doesn't seem like it right now but it won't be long until most humans won't have a purpose, all manual labour will be automated and AI will take care of solving our problems and inventing new things. We'll have an abundance of time and hopefully the funds, if money still exists, to pursue our hobbies.

Wasting time might be the norm. Maybe we'll get so bored we'll beg androids to let us help them. "Out of my damn way, human, I'm working here".

 

In 1999 I gave up wasting time, trying to do something useful- it was the worst 20 minutes of my life.

 

I have many idols who haven't wasted their time. Most are dead.
