As I like Jaycen's mixes and as I followed the plugin developpement through his socials (he started teasing it 1.5 years ago I think), this was an instant demo for me. And well, I can safely say that after thoroughly testing it, feeding it multiple types of materials... that this is one of the most useless pieces of junk I have ever installed on my computer. And I've installed MAAT FiDef.

It's just a mediocre multiband processor preset, with a very restricted amount of control.

I've already read people "proving" that the plugin is only an Ozone 4 preset. C'mon man neither one extreme or the other...

This plugin is made and marketed the way it is done, to properly target the average producers/mixers - which is the vast majority, which I find absolutely genious move from JJ.

It will bring a bit of leveling to a mediocre mix - mostly by doing a bit of multiband demasking and some eq - but that's it. When the mix is good, it can't replace dedicated and flexible tools on the mixbus.

So if you find this improves your mixes, better start finding out what you're doing wrong

 

WRONG. Sorry, but that's like saying, "If you turn on master assistant in Ozone and find it helps your mix, better start to learn how to mix better" lol. It's a tool. Either use it or don't. I think there's a lot of hate on this simply because Jaycen Joshua is arrogant. If it sounds good it sounds good. For pop/ hip hop mixes this thing is pretty good IMO to get a rough idea of what a modern mix will sound like.

 

I'm not sure what the problem with that statement is either? Surely you'd aspire to being able to do a decent mix yourself, rather than just relying on your plug-in's default preset?

I suppose if you don't care about that stuff at all you could just pay someone else who knows what they're doing to do it for you, but if you don't know the difference between a good mix and a crap mix, how would you know if the person you're paying is any good or not?

It's fine to be crap at the start of learning anything -- that's where we all start from. But you appear to be saying 'You're crap? That's fine. Just stay crap.' I dunno, perhaps that works for you, but I think most people aspire to get better at anything they care about.

 

If this plugin sounds bad to you, it means your gain staging is messed up. Remember, joshua is a mix engineer. At good levels and good mixes, this plug-in sounds pretty decent. Some of the reasons I don't like this plugin are too much cpu usage, limiter parts and hype.

Clearly, this went over your head.. So, allow me to simplify my point. It's a tool. Rules are made to be broken. Who cares if you use it right or not by your definition of "good" if the mix still sounds good at the end of the day (this is subjective and will be different for everyone). I've been mixing for over a decade professionally. Are you suggesting you know better than me what a good vs bad mix sounds like? Take everything you read online posted by some random "aspiring" mix engineer with a grain of salt. I don't claim to be better than anyone but I'll call someone out when they tell others how they should mix or use a plugin (according to them). Sorry if that offended you but I would encourage anyone reading this to do what works for them and learn by trial and error. Who cares if it's the default setting? You're missing the point and so are your ears.

i tried it because the marketing was so cringe and overhyped lol.
i knew i was going to get disappointed, especially with Jaycen somewhere said that some stuff are revolutionary like autotune, and then teased this plugin... i was like oh come on dude i dont even know what it is but dont overhype it lmao...

so, it does not handle well massive amounts of low end, so imo its not suitable for Hip-Hop/Rap stuff thats a bit more bold/extreme than the mainstream norm.

It does add some nice saturation right out the box when you open it, id say that type of saturation could be nice on guitars and vocals, stuff thats mid-presency, it also does something nice to the stereo image which i cant really explain, i actually really like it, but not at the cost of it shitting on my low-end and over compressing it.

depends on your materials and genre youre mixing - this plugin might be useful, its a shame their demo period is so short.
for me its a 5/10
