if i remember correctly it was requested on sister site a few months back but i cant remember its name so i cant search for it. in its description it was marketed as a superior EQ plugin. i d like to trial it so if anyone might know which relatively new EQ plugin i might be talking about pls post some names since when i ll read its name i guess i ll remember that is the one i am thinking of. thx

yar maties- i be thirding it was probably kirchhoff- which i think you can only buy currently... that kirchhoff i guess has a ton of different eq curves built into it, yeah? so you can replicate a pultec with a click instead of pulling in a emulated one to get your bass juicy. between that and split eq someone else mentioned i can't really think of anything else too hype the last few months- ive been using overlouds EQ-P which is a fairly recent release I think but i don't think it was marked as superior.

"it had no innovative features but marketing focused on its superior sound qualities" this is actually making me question whether its kirchhoff now- because it seems like the kirchhoff is cool for the opposite reason, its ability to replicate a ton of different EQ curves is innovative and the result isn't "superior" sounds but sounds that are true to the replicated EQ curve.... dunno if that makes sense. marketing bleh.

i think the big appeal for the kirchhoff is obviously the retro eq curves, but since its not on the sister site i'll be ok with out it. i figure i have fab filter, split eq, and basically every emulated EQ available on the sister site (90% of which collect virtual dust...) already so i don't need another plugin to not use. I should/would use split EQ more, as i think it's really really cool (seems like magic to me- how the hell does it let me do that?) but i think where it would really shine is in a situation where you were stuck with stems or were mastering a track. since i'm making music for myself, if i have like a hihat that isn't working i can just replace the sample, but if i wasn't able to have that creative control Split EQ would be a godsend.

Oh, I almost forgot my two best eq plugins- soothe 2 and gulfoss lol. they basically make up for the mess i've created using the previously mentioned eq plugins- in the end it all balances out.

it's kind of new but I don't see it being mistaken for the Kirchoff gui. The Kirchoff looks almost half as nice as ProQ3.

 

Except for that one EQ that was marketed itself as "the most 'meh' EQ on the market!!" Hmmm.. what was the name of that one again..?


Honestly, all jokes aside, I don't really see much need to go EQ hunting. Fabfilter Pro-Q3 is quite good. Kirchhoff is good. Your DAW's EQ is probably good.. unless you're looking for a very specific feature, I wouldn't buy into the "superior" hype.

Was it Gulfoss maybe? I‘m not sure if it is new but I remember hearing about it for the first time a couple of month ago by a guy who produced some stuff for TheWeekend, his name is Illangelo, he‘s a little creepy but definitely knows his shit. LOL

it was kirchhof for the win! we did it!!! it IS uncracked though- but it's going on my fantasy list of plugin's i'd actually buy if i ever went legit.

speaking of- i mentioned it above, and so did someone else but if you all haven't checked out Gulfoss I highly highly recommend it. a little goes a long way (they now have 3 versions- basically different CPU consumption/quality- they ARE hungry hungry hippo's like soothe can be when it comes to CPU) but if you throw that into your master chain and mess with the tame/recover settings it WILL make your mix open up.

literally as i type this i have just a couple of reverb-y pads and hihat looped, so i through the gulfoss on 25% tame/recover and it just sounds better. figure you're all in the loop on that, but in case not! enjoy!
