It's not online only. You can use it with an offline computer just fine. You only need to initially generate a file on the offline computer, log into your account online to generate the code, then take it back to the offline computer and activate it. No need for online at all (just a slightly more complex activation that's all).

I agree the reg key was easier, but on the plus side, since the keys are now tied per computer, there's no way people can get ahold of your regkey and mass distribute it, especially since it is required to log into your account (and if you use 2fa, nobody will be able to get in for sure).

So, it's just more safety that protects you in the end. Before this, they would've locked your account down for mass spreading a license key (which sometimes may not have been the fault of the user, which sucks for them); now there's a lot less to worry about that happening

(though still, don't violate the TOS, which states only you can use the program, and it's not meant to let anyone else use it; often this was the reason mass keys got spread, because friends of friends didn't care about the original license owner. Which is a big reason why the owner shouldn't be letting anyone else have a key in the first place)

Dang, man... what a party I missed. I reckon is fashionable to talk trash about FL Studio...

 

You need to generate that key every time you install FL Studio on a fresh operating system, meaning there is no true offline regkey like before, which essentially means it's DRM protected software now. Without an internet connection, your DAW will only be usable as long as your Operating system is installed. With DRM you can forget about using the same license on a fresh Windows install, let alone a different computer.

 

FL It became a mess I'm glad I didn't buy it.

The authorization process is not strange, but adapted to modern times. I know it's not always easy to adapt to new things, but time doesn't stand still. The reason of the new protection is to better protect against hacking and attacks.

With this new protection you are on the safe side. Manufacturers also have to constantly face the new threat scenarios from the bad guys and readjust your products to the situation. Costs a lot of nerves, time and money.

 

I don't know what's so complicated about the authorization-process. Just log in with your login data and you're done.

I just meant, for people who work offline all the time, or don't like DRM stuff, FL Studio was one of the user friendliest daws, before they switched the authorization process, and that change of mind really bugs me as a (cracked) FL Studio user... I wanted to buy it Black Friday finally... But now I'm not so sure anymore. I think, now many people won't buy it anymore (like me), and with the old process, FL Studio was still uncracked for a year or maybe even two, so why did they thought that it would be better to change copy protection? At the moment they just pissed off a lot of legit users....

I think nowadays even Cubase 12 is more user friendly for that matter, so I think I'll stick to my legit Cubase... Or maybe I'll finally check out Bitwig or Ableton (or Digital Performer...) If their authorization process is more comfy, for me?

Now I even can imagine, that FL Studio uses something like ilok in the future xD

 

Multiband Delay
Multiband Delay is a unique and powerful sound-design tool. The process splits an incoming signal into 16 frequency bands and allows you to adjust Delay, Volume and Panning for each band.

 

This only affects offline unlocking of FL Studio. Less than 1% of customers use FL Studio offline, and so there is no backlash here. There has been no backlash, nor do we expect there to be. Most people are not affected.

In what way is the new system 'being online dependent' ? You can still unlock an offline machine without it ever having to touch the Internet.
AFAIK all the major DAWs require a machine ID where offline unlocking is allowed. Some do not even allow it. We do not intend to disable offline unlocking, we just would like to verify the number of machines in use.

Why? This has become one of the major sources of 'piracy'. Sharing of offline Regkeys. FL Studio is blocked from accessing the Internet an then they install a shared, spread, stolen license.

We do not restrict the number of machines you can unlock (although at some point large numbers will attract attention).
PS: There is no personally identifiable information in the machine ID, nor can any data be reverse engineered from it. Its just like a GUID. In this way we do not learn anything personal about that offline machine you have used. Except your license authorized to be used on it.
