I'm at that age where my doctor sent me for a hearing test. I am alarmingly losing a lot of high frequencies, which combined with non stop tinnitus has me worried. I don't know if this is too bright or too much bottom or not enough or too much of everything.

It's a little bottom heavy with a slight mid scoop, everything is there though.

I am going to assume the pokey bass drum and mono print are creative decisions.

First of all, don't panic, many other people have this as well and live with it. Accept it and don't dramatize it.

You will get a diagram at the hearing aid acoustician/ear specialist after the hearing test where the frequencies you can no longer hear are marked. Most people get a hearing aid that amplifies the frequencies they can no longer hear. Against the tinnitus I used a white / pink noise ora tinnitus masker. www.vectormediasoftware.com/tinmaskerhome.htm

    What is a tinnitus noiser?

A tinnitus noiser is built into various hearing aid models and generates a soft noise as a counter tone to the tinnitus. The brain classifies the tinnitus noise as unimportant after some time and the tinnitus is perceived less. Under certain circumstances, the tinnitus may even disappear completely. A noiser is comparable to a hearing aid, individually fitted for each individual. It can be worn either in the ear or behind the ear.

Your ENT doctor Tinnitus has diagnosed tinnitus and prescribed you a hearing aid. Before you buy a tinnitus noiser, let your Amplifon hearing care professional advise you now. Our tinnitus specialists will be happy to inform you about hearing aids with and without a tinnitus noiser.

Really? So the bass drum isn't there and I can't even hear that I've bounced it in mono?? I am so screwed.

I'd say it's too boomy, the mids between 400 - 4000 could be emphasized, but both can be fixed easily.
    Top end is ok.
    Song is good.
    And no, it's not mono.

Not what I was trying to convey, must be an up top down under difference in euphemisms. The bass drum pokes out of the mix (not pokey as in small. but pokey as in in sonically conical like a mountain.)

Doesn't sound mono now, but I don't know if it was soundcloud or if I had flipped a mono sum somewhere on the monitor control but it was in mono 12 hours ago. I do run some external metering one of those being a correlation meter and it was pinned to +1.

Still sounds like everything is there though. Like I said it still pushes a little hard on the low end. Could use some more mids and the top end is fine. Everything is there.

Sub-bass on kick drum too overpowering. Cymbals have no top end. I had to check that my hearing hadn't gone too.

Sorta off-topic, but there are a few recent studies w/ rats that support the use of Metformin (easy to get metabolic/first line diabetic med) to prevent noise induced hearing loss:

Not advocating for it, but I take it anyway (to prevent weight gain from a medicine I need to take), so happy it might help out w/ the ears too....

It is a very pleasant mix. It's just the right amount of airband. there's nothing harsh or too bright.
Bottom is nice and dry. Amazing mix, nothing wrong with it.
(my hearing is still in good shape)
Awesome that you managed to do this with hearing loss.

I've noted all suggestions for which I am grateful and all proved to be correct. I trust I have improved on the original.

It seemed to come on quickly after having Covid. I can only hope that it will resolve in time. The world needs my awe inspiring talents now more than ever!!

Oh crap. Just googled "post Covid hearing loss" and studies thus far show it is irreversible.

Ouch. If the tinnitus goes away I think you will re-calibrate though. Sounds to me like you can still hear quite well but that you might be more mid focused than you once more, which will happen to all of us eventually anyway. Also add that you were a touring musician for quite a while as well so that didn't do you any favors either.

I have a strong hope and belief that you will adapt, adjust and after a bit of time will be back as good as you were.

The song sounds good to me, especially that walking bassline that seems to be an Aussie specialty. It's still a little mid scooped and I would have to listen to your pre-covid tracks again to even be sure this isn't just -your-sound. Anywho, great job and I hope you'll be around for a while to come doing your great thing.

    Cheers M8 and best wishes.

Thank you so much. You've been a constructive supporter of my music for a long time and I have not forgotten that. Your encouragement is really appreciated.
I am trying to realign my brain to admit that I may not be able to identify sibilance, but I can continue writing songs.

    Here's a pre Covid track.

I think that overtime you´ll learn to mix to pre-Covid, pre-tinnitus levels. If the syntoms are recent it´s normal that you are not yet adjusted to your new reallity, plus the stress asociated if you never experience tinnitus.

See what kush have to tell you about the subject.

Also keep track of this advancement

    https://news.mit.edu/2022/frequency-therapeutics-hearing-regeneration-0329

I do bc have tinnitus and mild hyperacusis so I´m eager to test that magical shit.
