    Hello everybody
First of all sorry for the title, I couldn't come up with a better one.

I have a new PC i7 11700FK with 32 GB of ram one system SSD 1 TB
and another NVME of 2 TB and a third sta 3 of 2 TB
I never used Kontakt much before but now I want to try Orchestral music and some movie music or scores
my question is where do I put my Kontakt Library?
on the second nvme SSD or the sata 3 SSD? and does it make any diffrence ?
pls keep in mind one of those SSDs is going to be for my 3D library.

can anyone with experience explain how do you araange the library? I mean you just put them all in one folder or by Brand?
can I rename a library or will kontatk never recognise it anymore

I am using Kontakt 6.7.1 (obviously neither Kontakt or the Libraries are official)

    thank you for any help

    best regards. cheers

You can change the libraries folders name. And organize them like you want as long you don't put a lib folder inside another lib folder.

About the SSD I'd go for the NVMe because Kontakt libraries are almost read-only, kind of SSD-friendly if you will. The SATA3 can be enough though unless you use gigantic libraries.

Wouldn't hurt to know more about what use the 3D library serves. To know if you need the NVMe muscle for that.

    hello
    thank you for the help
the 3d library is for rendering. 3D max & vray, Lumion, Revit, Illustrator and photoshop, some Premier pro.

for the folders do you mean I can't put all Native instruments in one folder named NI for example?

SATA SSD is easier to replace and easier to throw into USB 3/3.1/3.2 enclosure to use as external drive,
NVME SSDs are much faster, but you need to ask yourself how big the individual library presets of Kontakt instruments are, to see some benefit of having 500MB/s vs 4000MB/s for example,
for general SSD usage, you should decide where to store your files, so they wouldn't be copied between drives all the time - if you have 3D assets/library on a drive, it's probably more convenient to have 3D projects on same drive,
on the other hand Kontakt uses RAM (or disk streaming) for libraries, so you can have DAW projects on separate different drive to improve project load speeds, especially if you mix actual audio files/tracks with virtual libraries within single project

    Yes, you can.
Seeing you're gonna use heavy-weight 3D and video soft I agree with @tzzsmk. I'd recommended you the SATA3 SSD for Kontakt or other VST libs. You probably already know but make sure you set the temp/scratch/whatever its name folder in those 3D/video software in your NNVMe.

oh and btw Kontakt is not a slow piece of crap IF you perform "batch resave" function, definitely a mandatory thing to do once you have your libraries all set:

Just to add that you do not have to wait until you have your full Kontakt library collection in place. You just need to have settled on the folder name. Batch resave with "relative" path. Never change that to absolute path.
Some libraries might be saved with improper path and so give a missing samples error, but once you browse to the right directory it should find and continue.
I kept a spreadsheet as i began doing batch resaves because it takes some time and i did not want to repeat the process for any library by accident.

I have mine organized by vendor folders. I always use the default library folder name if one is provided by the installer.
I have organized a Quickload directory and rarely look at "wallpaper" mode.

    Hey, good suggestions above

I have a NVMe (980 PRO) as my system drive + main documents and and a SSD for the other stuff. "NI" and other libraries folders on the SSD. NI in fact only contains NI stuff in subfolders (my Komplete coll.ed.). Then there would be SF for spitfire in root, again with lib subfolders.. etc. Then there is a folder where I have my "non-legit" libs in subfolders that I use with Kontakt portable.

For 3ds max, I use the main drive for the bare project .3ds files arranged in folders. If there are only a few bitmaps associated with the project they go in the same folder. Bigger general material libraries + bitmaps are again on the SSD.

I don't see a problem with Max and load (heck, even write) times at all as it is the case with Kontakt libs. Premiere and Ae OTOH are IMO more on the DAW-like side, as you have to deal with A/V streams.

Bottom line, NVMe is faster but atm I probably wouldn't notice much difference. Also, as @tzzsmk wrote, it's easier to pull out a SSD with libs and put it in another PC, keep it as backup, replace for a new one..

    I get why say this.
Personally, I always make backup of the library instruments (and multis if it has) in a zip/rar file. Before anything else. Then I resave with absolute peace of mind.

Just for an idea of how Quickload can look.
As you can rename and move folders however you like ....
...within the limits of the OS, as Quickload is an actual folder on your hard drive..
... and, as such is very easy to BACK UP so you never have to worry about reloading all those libraries ...
...and wallpapers ? Just annoying eye-candy.

To make patches and your projects load even faster (and/or save RAM), purge all samples before re-saving your NKI, works with 95/100 patches.

I also bypass Kontakt's own convolution reverb for every patch I re-save, because other IR-loaders are much more efficient. Often cuts the patch's CPU-usage by half or more...

(As others have said, always keep a backup of your original NKMs/NKIs)
