Have you tried the finger tapping on the head method? I put my palms over my ears and start snapping my index finger onto my middle finger to tap my head and the ringing goes away. My tinnitus is pretty mild though.

 

I've tried the tapping method, all it does is change the focus of your brain, within seconds of stopping it all returns again. Maybe I need to invent a device with hands that constantly slap the back of my head. I know a lot of people who would pay for that for me.

 

Yeah I only found out because my tinnitus got bad when I cleaned out my ears recently with remover. It faded out though. I will definitely start wearing earplugs to clubs and shows and all. I don't know, its a weird situation. Mine is a high pitch noise at around maybe 16-17khz? The people who have it real bad have it at around 10khz if I recall.

 

Definitely wear earplugs if you can. I gigged for years and it's possible the cymbals contributed to my tinnitus, makes me wonder if tinnitus is a problem among drummers.

I would research earplugs because there are some good ones available that don't make everything sound muffled.

 

I also recently messed my ears up thanks to an old 32bit VST not bridging properly and white noise shooting out my DAW. Iv been using Nugen's signal protector for that as well, just wanted to mention that so the same thing does not happen to you lol

 

I always keep the volume of my speakers down so that can't happen. I don't actually like loud music so it's never a problem.

With volume adjustments and slow moves up and down, I could hear 20Hz - 16,4kHz on HP and monitors.

 

Hopefully, that doesn't stop us from working. Bruce Swedien was still working at 86.

 

I made one.
It works flawlessly and amazing.
Not only that, it is a broadband attenuater.
How to make it?

Take some old IEM looking headphones. Samsung used to ship them with their phones.
You can also take the older apple earphones.

Carefully, open the plastic body.
Remove the Internal driver and wire.
Now fill the entire cavity with Cement. I used a ratio of 4:1 for the Cement-Sand. Both are high density, as in more or less 2000 Kg/m3.
Now put the plastic body back on and let it dry and make sure, there's no change to the outer structure.
Now add those silicon pieces that comes with those headphones to make your wearing experience wonderful.

This attenuates everything by 10-15 dB Broadband and it is great.
I don't listen to anything more than 83dBSPL-C but when I am outside or at loud spaces, I wear my DIY broadband ear plugs.

 

Also, seeing your number, don't know why, I feel like you can hear nore but you only heard till 16.4 because you were hearing on YouTube?
My assumption based on solely this 16.4k number.
Might be wrong.

 

Anyway, I can hear from 20Hz to about 18.7kHz.
I can feel the 15-20 range and hear the harmonics there.
All these with the speaker-sub stereo 4way system.
Here's a Waterfall of my room to let you know that i can actually hear and Feel those LF without feeling any booming or Lingering Bass.

First it was difficult to find a quiet enough space. Even then with the heartbeat and craniosacral pump at work it was impossible to find anything resembling absolute quiet. Because of this, pinning down both the low and high end were problematic. With the HIFIMAN Sundara headphones I was able to hear/feel a clear rumble down to at least 9 Hz. I may have felt something below that but was inconclusive. Top end approached 16 kHz. Above that inconclusive. I had to make use of volume adjustments for both very low and high and there were times where it seemed like there were sound glitches when the volume was turned up high.
BTW, IME the Sundara is a fairly flat open headphone and good for mixing and mastering (if headphones are your thing) and on sale now for $300.

 

That's very nice of you but it's neither the hardware nor software, it's the wetware.

 

Luckily My Noise floor here is 27dBA and around 28-29 NC with the speakers off. With speakers on, the noise floor becomes 30.2dBA (The Tweeter Hiss from A/B amplification).
