For me. Neil Peart (RIP) God like in his ability, technique, and creativity.

Other drummers I really dig are:

    Gavin Harrison:

    Danny Carry:

And the absolute animal, Bobby Jarzombek:

It's hard to choose one, but he's an epic drummer:
    Stewart Copeland ( The Police)

    "Message in a Bottle" :

I always really liked how he handled the drums in this song, in fact I think it was the inspiration for many drummers.

I was also dazzled by Karen Carpenter when I heard her play the drums and even percussion, I thought she only sang, and she was really incredible

Absolutely - and it's alive in wonderful, and not always obvious places, nowhere near the crappy pop charts.

For example... Japanese live female rock bands are really kicking ass
and I truly love how they make the western 'computer beat making' gimmick look pathetically lame.:guru:

Honest it's not my fetish (well maybe  - but if it is - it's mostly a live-music with balls appreciation fetish)

    This is exquisite

I love the whole band but again the drummer Akane Hirose is a real favourite

Entertaining to watch a drummer's reaction to her performance - and her mini drum solo

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXvU6qx4UlI

She is yet another example of someone who's drumming is far more complex than you might realise on first pass.
She just makes it look so easy - no strained faces - just happy to be really playing.

I love these girls. Especially the drummer. She's about the same size as a muppet but she could kick most 'tattooed gorilla' heavy metal drummers off stage just with her precision and feel. A great band.

Recommendation: assemble the playlist shown below. (mp3s are out there somewhere)
It's just a personal choice 'Best of' playlist from two older albums 'Brand New Maid' and 'New Beginning'
    01. Freedom (from Album 'Brand New Maid')
    02. Thrill (from Album 'New Beginning')
    03. Real Existence (from Album 'New Beginning')
    04. Look at Me (from Album 'Brand New Maid')
    05. Before Yesterday (from Album 'Brand New Maid')
    06. Order (from Album 'Brand New Maid')
    07. Freezer (from Album 'New Beginning')
    08. Alone (from Album 'Brand New Maid')
    09. The Non Fiction Days (from Album 'Brand New Maid')

What's also great here (for me) is they sing in Japanese.
So, I haven't the faintest idea what they're singing about and that doesn't matter at all!
No distraction from lyrics - her voice is just another instrument - great!

Back on Sept 16, 1981 (I had to look up the date on Setlist), I saw Journey with Point Blank in Hilton Coliseum at Iowa State University. Point Blank was uninteresting. Journey was pretty good, if a bit "by the book". When the spotlight came up on Steve Smith to launch into his solo, my first instinct was to go to the bathroom as drum solos, to me, were gratuitous and boring.

As I started leaving, I started hearing some amazing drum phrases from Steve, making me think, "Hey, this guy's got something going here." As it turned out, I stayed for the entire solo because, man, he was impressive. The only other drummers I ever heard that slayed wwere Neil Peart and the diminutive drummer (who's name I never knew) for the Herbie Hancock/Chick Corea show at the Beacon Theatre in NY.

I saw these woman in I think like '94 at some Heavy Metal convention in a Burbank hotel. They were the best band in the joint.

Not my favorite drummer, but I love drum cams and this dude is good. Note the mid-beat cap adjustment @18sec :)
