I'm well truly over and moved away from the phase of tHe mOsT tEcHnIcAL mUsiCiaN is the best, I don't have any preferred drummer that I truly like these days maybe just a long list of good ones I adore. Since this song was on my playlist today, might as well name one. This type of guy is my favourite these days I'd say. The drummer that understand the music and played with just the right amount of intensity and expression needed to make the music flourish to its best potential. Sad that he is no longer playing with the band and left to pursue something else. His name is Steve Forrest.

the long version and better quality video of the show

I think modern music is lacking drummers who can stamp their own personality on the sound, a lot of the drumming these days seems quite generic.

Hell yeah. Simple simple player but what a pocket. Again, right man for the band. Chris Slade is also great, but lousy for them. I've heard a lot of bands cover AC DC and most of them had terrific drummers but they do not nail Phil's feel...

How do y'all feel about Zak Starkey in The Who???

(Speaking of which, Simon Phillips is absolutely a top 5 drummer for me. But, not in The Who...)

:wink::wink: Yoyoka :wink::wink: here playing 'Rage Against The Machine'
This example (is just one of countless) was when she was 10 years old.
Other examples? - lots - you name it, she's probably played it.

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkw57uGnSrs

    Interesting to note:
If you ask Yoyoko a similar question "who are her favourite drummers?", she'll quote many of the same names mentioned in this thread but then she can also demonstrate and play her favourite example from that drummer. Sobering!
Check out her list at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWQAiVlpjivfvB4Cbtm_17g
    It's a performance list that would scare many adult drummers;
e.g., , watch her as an 8-year old ripping off John Bonham - and watch Robert Plant enthusing over it. Just brilliant.
    ---

EDIT: Just had to come back to this with some updates.
Now that she's an old lady of 12 years old - it's even clearer that this girl is an awesome combination of technique, feel, and authentic happy passion - in absolute terms and not just as a kid.

She's now pushing out stuff in a kind-of modernised Dream Theater vein.
This video does showcase her drums - but not enough so 'just listen'

Here's an endorsement from Ian Paice

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKmZeBG5A0M

and a documentary of this old lady from when she was 3 years old to the current day 12 years old.

The word best for any musician is always totally stupid,
but words like special and favourite are ok, and, for me, she really is both. :)

Dammmn, kid's got a foot! She has some great Bonzo vids. A lot of grown-ass men can't hit like that. There's so many prodigies out there; you used to not hear about them before the interwebs.

The first one who came into my mind was Dave Lombardo, but I'll say it's Jukka Nevalainen:

Because he was adding his own energy into songs. Unfortunately he is not doing it due to health problems.

As a bonus, we have to mention legendary NyangoStar:

As a drummer for 40 years Mike Clark is without a doubt in the pantheon of the greats.

Well there are literally hundreds. Yeah, I missed Stewart! I said Phil.

A few more personal picks: both Clive Bunker and Barrie Barlow from Jethro Tull. And John Weathers from Gentle Giant.

Such a good movie, often coming back to it even tho I have nothing to do with drums except few sample libraries :) they could do a sequel where this bald motherfucker visited berghain and inspired by xtc experience decided to teach how to play a 909. "-Five, six and... *Music stops almost immediately*. -Now this one really upsets me, we have out of tune player here. *Looking at fat guy* -Tell me it's not you. Do you think your snare is out of tune? -Y... yes. -THEN WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU SAY SO!!? *Fat guy starts crying silently*. -Why are you still sitting here, get the fuck out! *Fat guy walks out of the room, everyone's dead silent* -For the record, Metz wasn't out of tune... It wasn't even a snare, it was just a white noise coming from demo version of his u-he synth."
