Is th Howard Benson STL IRs the best Marshall there is?

    Maybe you need to look at Mesa's since Mike Soldano was inspired by them to build the SLO100? V30's not GB's or the likes.

    Your correct about everything although softube took their own approach, sort of like how Plug in Alliance claims they created the most faithful Amek 9099 channel strip while mentioning they had no access to the data of the internal EQ so they added the Amek 200 and another section THEY believed worked better with the strip...they kidding?

    I was surprised Kerry agreed to allow softube to use his name and specs Terry Date -Chris Paccou shared according to softubes website., its a start though., hope another update comes around.

    this is what they based this plug on, Really? Kerry's sound changes allot from show to show and he uses real amps in so many ways that are difficult to IR., but like I said, its a start.

    P.S. have you tried Excalibur IRs?

    I think it's just some sort of marketing gimmick. We should not believe what it's said 100%

    your getting there. so on one side of the room i have adam audio a7x's and genelac, then on the other side of the room a hand built point to point 6v6 class a/ab single gain one off mod of a trainwreck express circuit c (which ended up nowhere near a mod c) and full of rare one of a kind parts including a 5 tap thorardsen 12s63 transformer.

    is literally as to say my video game is just like pounding through the gears of a 68 chevelle

    btw, there is no such thing as a class a/ab, but if i draw both sections both are true. push/push pull. but in true Ken Fischer form, how the gain structure feeds through the gain tonestack defies logic on paper. my solution came from 1940, and is almost pefectly quiet. as it peels the skin off your face

    since I posted this I got every IR not he planet and I think its a very metal like IR, I am actually impressed by Jens Bogren, for decent Howard Benson rock guitar tones, but the best Modded plexi plug in has to be Howard Benson's cause its really on the sweet spots of plexi Marhsalls, nice tight low end...you dont know until you tweak where other Sims you tweak and you know they are one dimensional.

    I was also surprised by another company Howard Benson worked with called JST, they have a few SIMS that sound nice...TH-U is ok too
    So whats your go to sim and IRs, after listening to your tracks its the first thing anyone would wonder, nice work.

    I got the "real amp feel" with PROFILING only.
    Kemper, TH-U Rig Player, Mooer Capture, Neural DSP (yes, they "capture" their plugins like their Quad Cortex) ... and more to come
    It was a revelation when i tried them

    Because i feel the strings, pick attack ... with profiling only. They react perfectly to dynamic, lower volume knob and more.

    Apart that, Nebula OwnHammer cabs are really impressive ... but OwnHammer stopped making AND selling them.
    Too bad ... i could get that resonance and air so easily.

    By chance, i had them before they stopped. On the other side, a good profile can get cabs very close, BUT a lot of profiles have bad cab capture.
    So i disabled it (TH-U Rig Player can do it, i use Anthony Class preamps only on Mooer GE200 + OwnHammer IR ...)

    I was an "all tubes" guy for years, but i'm not going back this route.

    If you can, get a hold of a Strymon Iridium, the sweet spot is pretty sweet. I don't know what they do inside the little black box that weighs next to nothing, but it is pretty cool.

    yeah I like their cab sim with the amp1blu, they got the best JCM800 tone,
    the method I found was to go into a
    Guitar
    ->Boss SD1,
    -->Amp1 Blu with classic marshall setup
    --> by pass over drive and cab sections and go through out to a ICONSLAST[​IMG]

    You can use any IR at this point

    I dont understand why anyone wants to have hundreds of IRS, just get the best IRs (go to) and stick to them, to be blunt out honest I think you need at least 4 IRs, the Howard Benson tonality plugin is one of the best, they actually used 3-4 per cab, STL Tones hides this., in fact STL tones are a55holes, they also removed the option to see all the cabs and was them on the fly in their gui, now the IR section is no more Howard Benson and mike style but a stupid speaker with a adjustable mic, which is all they should of added with the older GUI, but what they are really hiding is that the Marshall mod they use is claimed to be a 1974 50 watt tremolo with a 10 inch speaker, its actually a Kuassa vermilion, I just listened to comparisons and the Kuassa sounds even better with the identical IRs in the Howard Benson plugin.,

    Lets talk about the Vermilion, it uses two speakers, 10" and 8", I again dont understand why anyone chases a 12 inch in a 4x12 when a 1x12/10/8inch sounds way more punchier, you get different tones from the cabinets, this guy Jake E Lee who played with Ozzy Osbourne said Ozzy's live sound crew where British guys who toured with Judas Priest and Sabbath, they install speakers in guitar and Bass cabs to match their stage and live rigs, like they are the ones who put EV speakers in Zack Wylde's cabinets, they mic'ed a 12 inch in a 4x12 but gutted out two of the speakers and used sound proof isolation pads to totally fill the cab mixing it from the front and back, just to bring the punch into the live mix so the guitar did not sound like it was played with paper pick.

    infact Zack Wylde did not even have a style or tone when he joined Ozzy, it was Kieth Olsen who brought in John Syke's Marshall combo JCM800 and also ghost tracked the Randy Rhoads live like harmonic squeals, but my point is speakers should be small, tight and quick to deliver a punch if you use Marshalls., 12 inch v30s are the tightest cones, its why people like them., but to involve ambience of mics-rooms and hallow open cabs is ridicules.

    I used to use an old 80's Peavey 400 Series bass head with 15 and 12 inch Black Widow speakers in a three piece band playing mostly a (then new) first run ESP Tele in around 1983/84. I used just the distortion from the amp, turning the distortion and harmonics knobs to 2 o'clock. It was killer.

    I had a peavy and guys where laughing at me with their Marshalls, iw as like listen to it, sounded like Satriani live, they where all laughing and saying my rock man-samsamp and all are solid state imitations of the whole preamp stage gain structure in Marshalls, I had no clue what they here talking about until I played Zack,s JCM800 at SIR studios in New York, I was jamming with a friend who was in a so and so popular band getting ready for a tour, they knew I loved playing Sabbath and iron maiden so they told Zack next door about me, he pulled a funny one by putting one of his 20 Marshall JCM800 2204 (before the zack models) original stock heads in the room, I was blown away, then the guys at the studio told me zack is clueless, they explained how to find the sweet spot, add a boss sd1 or act preamp pedal or micro pedal, I fiddled around with dozens of options it was mind blowing, I wanted to run off with the head lol but I remind you that al the sweet spots I dialled blindfolded where very very very loud, I mean too loud to even jam in a small rehearsal room, to bring those amps down to 3 or 2 is not worth it, iw Ould have to add more gain, today the Fridman pedals do that but it was not the case back in the 80s and 90s, im like you I went back to my peavy and had fun....now I have Marshalls all over the place but cant play them, even the 1watts are loud, the dsl combos be it at 10 watts is LOUD, still need to add a Friedman and sd1., and all this is barely high gain, I rather plug into my neural dsp nameless, cali or something like Kuassa or s-gear plugs.
