Since Reason 11 and 12 got liberated, we've started to see a mountain of Reason Extensions that are also cracked to go along with the app.

If it isn't enough to be keeping up with the various VST's that get released, now I've also got to check out mountains and mountains of Reason Extensions as well?

So, I've started this thread in an attempt to persuade people to share their views on the essential RE releases. I'd suggest the following categories (but if other categories occur to you and seem better, by all means use them. This is just a way to organize my own thoughts.)

    Categories are:
    a.) Essential RE
b.) Not critical but still nice to have. I won't be deleting this one.
d.) Complete stinker. Don't even bother downloading.

    My own picks:
    a) Essential RE's
    Algorhythm FM
    Complex -1
    ABL-3
    ReDominator
    Obsession

b.) Not critical but still nice to have
    4MER Waveshaper
    Haaswerk Kick Bass Commander
Lectric Panda Sequencers -- Korde and Propulsion
    Ochen K A-Series 1 Modular and A=Series 2 Modulat

    d.) Stinkers?

I want the c) as well.

been checking them racks 2 or 3 per day and squeeze them in to the project I've been working on from time to time. I also make a long list of short note of each of the rack I've tried and like. Keeping them all because I have plenty of space. Haven't got the time to actually play with the advanced patching modular stuff and the fancy Players just yet since my usage of Reason is just as an instrument (synth) in other DAW. Here just to list few that I like and always use.

    a)
    Synth
    - Reason - Mimic (favourite), Grain Sample Manipulator, Algoritm, Subtractor, Parsec
    - Synapse - Antidote (Love this one), Legend, Obsession.
    - PinkNoise - Orange, Luna, Matrix etc. - always a fan of their Kontakt library, old synth sample based synth. I think they sound good.
    - Blamsoft - Viking, Expanse, Blamco Filter, F16 analog Filter (so good when automated)

    Effects
    - Reason - Scream 4, Aligator Filter, Audiomatic Retro Transiformer, Neptune, Synchronous Modulator
    - Audio Poison - Strontium90 (try this one, so cool)
    - SKP - FAT50 (Fatso ?) , Sugar Q (Baxandall style EQ, smooth)
    - SoundMod - Tritone Multiband Waveshaper
    - LabOne - Enforcer, Stimulant Sub Generator, Zplane filter.
    - Synapse - Fat Space (unbelievably good!), Analog Filter

Hope DECiBEL will keep raining them RE more and more. I like to use the Filter FX in Reason because it uses less CPU than the VST filter plugins.

    My Absolute Most Essential Essential:

Lectric Panda CVPT (allows some of your non-player arpeggiators/sequencers *including sequencers in synths that have cv out* to Send to Track like players can - good for printing to midi)

    My Other Essentials:

Alien Seed Tech Kron (this thing is deep)
    Robotic Bean Resonans
    Reason Studios Parsec 2
    Reason Studios Algoritm
    Blamsoft Expanse

Not essential but nice to have:
    Blamsoft Zero
    Reason Studios Complex 1
Ochen K CV Tuner (a note quantizer - nice for taming S&H/random CV type stuff)
    Synapse Antidote
    Lectric Panda PSQ1684
    Several other Lectric Panda products

Don't really think along the lines of stinkers...some things are just not for me.

Sure, but I'm guessing most of us didn't use Reason between Reason 5 and R2R's release of Reason 11/12.

Responses to this have been so helpful. There were so many RE Extensions released that I really couldn't download them all -- so I downloaded the ones that looked good and didn't bother with many of the others. Sure, I'm gonna check out the new synth, but do I *really* need another reverb/compressor/distortion/low pass filter?

So I gave many of them a pass but I was always anxious that I was missing something. Downloading some of that good shit right now.

Also: thanks for the tip re. Mimic. I've been avoiding the upgrade to Windows 10 for some time now. Windows 7 was running everything I needed it to run. But I really want to be able to run the latest version of Reason and Cubase, so I suppose I'm going to have to bite the bullet. My only reservation is that once I upload my Hard Drive, I'm probably going to have to upgrade my motherboard, my CPU and my RAM as well. Gonna be hard to do that without blowing ...what, £600 or so?

What about the Optional content that comes free with the last reason versions? such as Radical Piano, Drum Supply, Loop Supply, Pangea instrument, etc? I m trying to get them because I can't download them from Reason 12 it says Download Failed, so I was wondewring if its because the R2R version doesn't allow internet connection?
I remember finding you asking this question in the sister site, have you been able to get the additional library from the Reason studio itself? or do you had to download it elsewhere? I was searching for that content but I haven't found it in the sister site nor in torrent.

Oh so the keywords for it were "additional content", I was searching with Optional Content and the names of the content but got 0 results. Thanks for the help!

The temptation will always be there to download every extension for every DAW and application that is any good on the market.
The reality is you do not need 700 compressors, 257 different reverbs, 940 saturation plugins and analog emulators, 345 limiters, 2,714 varied delays, 1,567 synthesisers or varying types, 190 different types of sample library players, 139 transient shapers, 231 resonance suppressors, 1653 sequencing, pattern, ducking and other rhythmic generators and creators etc etc etc etc... so on and so forth...

If you look at ANY popular bare-bones DAW based application - Reaper, Cubase, Logic, ProTools, Fruity Loops, Ableton Live, Reason, Studio One, Bitwig etc etc etc..... Look at what they come with by default. The only true additions are what they cannot do in their bare-bones form which these days, is not a lot. Subsequently, what they do not come with that you need is what you add. I am not going into the hierarchical path.
Try what is new, keep what you need and will use, and get rid of what you don't and won't use is my take.
