Gutted to find that rewiring Ableton in Cubase 12 now cant be done.. at least if Steinberg are going to remove something, at least give the users a way to still combine DAW's..

Its a pain in the ass for some things. I used it to Rewire Reason 5 in my Cubase for many years. Now that I updated to Cubase 12 and also noticed the absence of rewire I also had to update to Reason 12 in order to still using Reason devices with another DAW.

But this changed my workflow, some things are better but others are worse, for example the "edit sample" window doesn't exist in the Reason Rack Plugin, which diminishes the workflow when I have to edit it somewhere else, save it, and then import it in the Reason Plugin;
I also liked to add some send effects in the Reason mixer for the Reason instruments but now to do that I have to open an instance of Reason Effect Plugin for every one effect I want to use and then make the sends of the Reason Rack instruments to the new channel.
Aaaand I liked to plug some audio/CV cables between the Reason devices, but now that's not possible between different Reason Rack Plugin instances.

So yeah, the lack of ReWire made some things worse IMO. Now I don't know if want to make my music projects in Cubase or just in Reason DAW.

 

this is old, Reason Studios has announced that they will discontinue the Rewire protocol at the end of 2020. rewire was deprecated
