doing it at the start it leaves you to constantly guesswork all the time what mono will sound at the end..as you keep adding effects etc and it keeps messing the mono image

If you don't screw up the phase of the sounds, panning right from the start is no problem at all.

Hit that mono on your master bus from time to time. That works to. :)

Panning is for guitars, percs, strings, harps! which dont clatter up the centre!! Bass is mono! maybe but you can make it wide but you will get phase issues! What you are looking for is space for instruments

if you pan at the start with all the effects added later on etc...i think there's no chance not to screw up the phase?

i mean you can't predict what mono will sound...unless you costantly check it..

you are trying to combine about three different "Correct" things you have heard or read somewhere, which end up with you and an "Incorrect" result.

If you really want anything mono, because it is your EDM/club music; it is your kick and your sub. Waves S1 imager is still a great plugin for tops then, one of the only ones I miss having. If you are having phase issues, I'd guess it is because you are layering things you either shouldn't be, haven't stacked or frequency separated things correctly, compressed, etc. Lots of other ways to cause this.

Nope. Basic levelling and panning was and is always the first thing I'm doing in a mix.
If you're unsure about the phase and can't hear it (yet), having a look at a correlation meter every now and then is not a bad idea.

Actually the opposite, doing this at the "end" will change the mono picture completely. Your "panned" mix might actually suck at mono, with half the instruments up to 6 dB softer.
This is not entirely useless practice tho, because you'll at least learn how to resolve frequency masking.

mono picture does not change if you pan out at the end

it always collapses to the same result you had before you panned out when you hear it in mono

    thats what i think?

if you put waves s1 on it, you can narrow each one down to center, aim it, and then expand it back. if you are making edm, most of the sounds are generally center, and just panned enough so they are not directly on top of one another.

why are you even thinking about your "final mix" before you do it? all that matters is what you end up with. It's not going to be easier later, by wasting more time before that. The first thing you are going to do before mixing is reset everything anyway, unless you want to waste more time like that too. (maybe just personal preference?). This is a nice thing about Logic "Project Alternatives" feature.

Every time I see a very retard post title on the sister site feed and click on it - yep, our friend sam turned foster the troll. If only you'd spend 10% of the time you spend here, doing actual work... would be a miracle greater than Jesus' resurrection. Just do the fucking work instead of talking about every bit of irrelevant detail, is THAT easy :trashing:

Every song I've ever uploaded here gets panned. It's my voice, I know. It stinks.

You´re right, of course, and it´s a shame to see all the nice guys in a hurry trying to give him the BEST ANSWER to his "questions". I really can´t understand.

That last time I touched the mono button on the master bus I was virgin and unemployed. Since I stopped pressing that button I had tons of sex and I'm already in my second full time job. Hope that answers your question regarding mono compatibility.
