Hello, i'm reaching to you because i'm kinda desperate..
I have a strange problem that i can't figure out, I was thinking thats it was because of the daw but i tried 3 and same shit happens..
I have a i7 10700k workstation with an asrock W480 creator MB in it, and it's weird because when i boot up the computer and open a session with let's say 50% cpu load, nothing' bad's happening, everything's running smooth. But after roughly 30min to 1 hour of working my cpu jumps to the red and i have to reboot to see performances getting back to normal. Right now i'm using R2R cubase but same problem happens in Studio one (cracked AND legit version) and Pro tools (AudioUtopia release).

I have my powerplan set to high performances by the way.

If somebody ever had the same problem and know a way to resolve it please tell me because it gets me reallly crazy haha.

    Bless

In a first guess I would suspect temperature issues.
If you use a more moderate power plan does it go better?

Yeah, sounds like CPU throttling, probably due to heat. Look it up (and ways to address it) on the web.

Hi, did you check cooling system?
Also check processes running in the background, check and look for malware too

As other's suggested it might be cpu overheat or it can be the overheating of the VRMs. What I would do is reinstall the system or boot from usb, test it for a day or two. If problems persist on a fresh OS then most like it's not software related.

Wait for it to happen again and see if there's anything suspicious in the task manager, in the processes tab.

run something like core temp or anything else, which could read out various metrices from your CPU and the rest of the system.

Ok guys, before anything else I want to thank all of you for your quick answers !
    Now time to investigate....
I don't know the f*** is going on but I downloaded CoreTemp and yes the temperature goes up to 60°C directly when the CPU meter starts to fly in the red. BUUUUUT i also see that when i just OPEN my task manager and not doing anything more than opening it the problem is gone and the temperature of CPU goes back to 30-35 °C.
I also see that my task manager is closing itself after a while, do you know if it's normal?

Do i have to call an exorcist for my computer? :dunno:

EDIT: I just checked the temperature when I have nothing running on the PC, same shit, at one time temperature is jumping to 55-60°C and goes back to normal when i open the task manager.

No but you should definitely install a trial copy of malwarebytes and scan your PC immediately with it (including the rootkit option), 'cos it certainly sounds like your PC has been compromised.

    Re-pasting the CPU might help.

You defiantly have a cooler issue. I would not play around just get the water cooler. It's the best investment you will make. THe cooler the chip the longer it will last and also better performance.

I used to have Air coolers on other builds not any more. Best investment I have made.

I'm not saying he couldn't use a water cooler. But those wilds jumps in temperature aren't normal even for a lacking cooler.
Could be something wrong with his actual air cooling. Not enough heater/CPU contact or pressure, etc.

If you have good CPU cooler,, clean the dust and re-applying new good thermal paste might help...

    Hell no.

The increase in temperature could be just a saide effect of some malware running the CPU to hell, i had that problem once with very similar simptoms, except there was a process in the task manager that was visibly sucking CPU like crazy. It wouldn't hurt to try some anti-malware software.

    Not normal.
Some viruses, Bitcoin apps etc. close themselves when Taskmanager is opened.
It is almost typical for an infected system.

So Your problem seems to be devided into two parts: Virus plus CPU Temperature.

-Check/repair you PC with good Antivirus or - better - install it from scartch* if you suspect a virus and of course avoid the app(s) the virus scanner identyfies.
(* I've never made any good experiences with A/V cleaning a system from viruses. It never ran stable again)

Do frequent backups (daily/weekly/monthly scheme) when you have a stable and virus free system.
Then you can always fall back to that state and it will save you a l o t of time.

-Nevertheless. In any circumstances even with 100% your CPU should not get too hot or it dies some day. A temperature management with such a processor is a must. The cooler the CPU stays the better and more stable you PC works.

While water cooling is really great for Gaming PCs it micght be not that good for Audio PC.
With no moving parts, wear and tear is also practically no longer an issue.
    This is very impressing:

Are you using a CPU fan, or a CPU cooler with a radiator? The latter I doubt because it tends not to work in the recent ones if it is not installed correctly.
I have seen this a couple of times before but only with a CPU fan. It was not mounted properly even though it looked fine, so it was not cooling the CPU properly and evenly. This is guaranteed to randomly spike in temperatures.
If a CPU Fan - Check the rear of your Mainboard and check the mounts are even on the other side - that is, they are mounted properly, and that that tighteners are not loose. If not that, or you are using a correctly mounted cooler I have no idea.

P.S. If the temperatures are spiking high perpetually, the CPU will be throttling. Any CPU manufacturer will list that.

Do this first, it sounds like a background process driving the CPU driving.

Also keep the taskmanager open to check for CPU usage when you do XY works.

    Yepp.
I've bought a pre configured PC a few years ago. Everything seems to be optically okay but CPU got too hot. Some hours later: They just forgot to use (enough) cpu cooler heat conductive paste.
(Hard to understand how the PC got through the QA test. Honi soit qui mal y pense :bleh:)
