In plugin world its 99,9% GUI files nothing else
If they didnt have a nice GUI the size would have been a few mb maybe even kilobytes depending on what type of plugins it is.

Its 2022, everybody should just use SVG, that will solve most of the scaling issues probably. Android has been doing it for long. Windows 10 has it in icon fonts. Plus from a dev POV its super simple to manage. Most frameworks already support this I guess, JUCE included.

No need to make photorealistic interfaces with wood at the sides. Fucking waves plugins look like 1980s when scaled to anything different than 100%. And they made it the feature of Waves v12 literally.

Some virtual software synthsizers like the Omnisphere 2, for example, have added a WAV import function, so sound designers make libraries with imported WAV's and the Omnisphere 2 gets "fatter" with the many Wav's and its loading times are naturally longer.

The Avenger needs almost 20 seconds or more to load its sound library.
Conclusion: You should install as few sound libraries as possible, otherwise performance suffers.

 

I found that Izotope plugins use a lot of ressources, even if you don't use their wannabe AI crap. I'm a big fan of Tokyo Dawn plugins, but unfortunately they demand quite a lot of resources too. I'm sure it's not a big issue if you have one of the current generation computers, but my setup is still based around a 3rd generation i5 CPU.

 

I had also tested many great plugins and was thrilled, sound and operation were great and then came the nasty surprise
of the CPU controller turning red. I then deleted the plugin and replaced it with a more resource-efficient one.

Well, my laptop is just 6 yo. i7-6700HQ 2.60-3.2Ghz, 16GB ram, 1TB SSD with GTX960m. This is a gaming laptop, so I think it's not so bad for the recent plugins though. Plus, I don't use too many plugins for a single project.
