I have loaded an old track in Cubase and this synth is missing...no other info given and for the life of me i cannot remember which synth it is.

 

Maybe is a Yamaha sy vst plugin?...

I would actually look at your processing chain to try and figure it out. What Synth would you put a Decap as insert FX #1, (something as insert #2 we cannot see in img), then Panning, Then your Brickwall Limiter.

Surely, you would not use this FX Chain on very many synths, would you? I think I would remember it that way... I bet if you listen to your project without it, it will probably be the first plugin you think of.

What is the project start date on the file? That may also help you figure it out. Personally, I go through periods of time where I often fire up the same things, in a similar order. The z3ta, or OpenVAS, period. etc. Like when Picasso only had blue paint.

 

Nicely thought. I used that chain of fx to make it more oragnic and less FM...It was Sytrus ! I modify its name due to the fact that cubase always tried to put it in its blacklist...the rascal

 

Sytrus was going to be my first guess, except that you had it in a Cubase project. I always used to just export from FL and load as wav. Your trick to use it as VST probably made more difficult

 

This is something that has bugged me for years - the inability of DAWs to output a simple document/text file stating the setup of a project, the instruments and plugins used on each track.

 

OMF? Most of the mainstream daws actually supports it.

 

Interesting, I wasn't aware of OMF. I've used Ableton mostly though and it doesn't. Will look into this...

 

Thankfully, Reaper shows at least the real name of a pugin in the project file, so you can see it with a simple text editor.
