    Hi Guys,

I am trying to see what you guys think on the sound quality of these 2 short recordings. I tried to make them as equal as possible in volume when recording. There are a few mistakes in the replaying but I want to know which one sounds better or worse ETC.

This is a guitar plugged into each unit DI. To compare the Preamps and ADC of each unit.
    No effects no compression.

Interesting. Which unit do you thin one was?

I understood for mega for future but I thought it would be easier also for other right now.

If you call that sounds. It's me playing the guitar di into each unit. Nothing but the guitar.

    I like 002.
The highs on 001 seem too loud in some cases.

    Version 001 for me.
Version 002 has slightly harder transients sounds somewhat clearer, but it also sounds a tiny bit harsher.
001 is a little bit more pleasant in the highs nicer to listen to for me.

I could work with both perfectly fine.

Agreed, but this could also be due to the performance.

I'd say it's a matter of taste and purpose.

I am human so might be a subtle difference in my playing but I tried very hard to keep them equal.

I also Like v2626Test-001 my self. I will let everyone know which is which in a few days I don't want to spoil this thread with the out come yet.

001 Was the Gen 1 Focus Rite Pro 40
    002 was the Quantum 2626.
I agree that the Focus Rite Pre amps sound better and more natural.

I am amazed that the Gen 1 which I would say is at least 11 years old is better than the newer Quantum 2626 one.

#1 sounded best to me but both would be fine.

Was that the Doors Light My Fire? It was familiar to me.

    I also liked #1.

It isn't as 'natural' as the second but it does have a richer mid-range and a bit more spank that covers up some of the wool down low. It is a more harmonically rich sound and in this particular dry sample for the instrument chosen I prefer it. It could just be played a little hotter but I don't think so.

Number 2 sounds a bit more accurate, less of that mid-range bump, but better defined and you can hear some of that low end smudge that will probably get cut off when you EQ anyway.

They are both usable, but the first will cut through better on it's own with less effort. The second one will take distortion better latter in the mixing process as you have a better pure S/N ratio and are not introducing unwanted harmonics into the equation.

    Different horses for different courses.

I wanted others opinions on these since my ears would tend to go with what I know. I agree. Either will work. It was more of an informative for others on how the new gear stacks up to the older stuff.
