    Hi friends,

    simple question, tough answer:

if I have an album as a single FLAC file, defined by CUE sheet,
what's the best way to split it into individual FLAC tracks, while retaining all the metadata and correct duration? what software do you recommend to do so?

I've tried few apps, and usually it breaks some metadata, or the total length of all tracks doesn't match original single file length

    any tips appreciated

    Medieval Cue Splitter: http://www.medieval.it/cuesplitter-pc/menu-id-71.html

Works great, but be sure to check the option to add and invert pauses, so that the pre-pause of one track is added to the end of the track before. It's a bit strange, but his is how CD pauses work.

Edit: Just saw you're using macOS, me too, but for all FLAC or OGG conversions and managing my music library i use Windows and Medieval/dbpoweramp for years since i didnt find any solution on macOS that really worked for me.

    xrecode III. Period.

It allows to you to perfom all (and I mean ALL) kinds of combinations. Examples: WAV+CUE to separate FLAC tracks, separate WAV tracks to MP3+CUE, MP3+CUE to separate WAV tracks. And any other possible combination.

And it can process files in batches of 24-files-at-a-time in my 24-thread i9.

    WHOA so that's something interesting,
thanks for the invert pause tip, did the trick!

what I found though is, Reaper DOES NOT play those files accurately in phase-invert tests I've been doing - for some reason it randomly makes some of the music 100% zero'ed, not on some tracks, BUT when zooming closer and giving it a while, it perfectly nulls.....looks like I'll be reporting bug on Reaper forum if I manage to repeatedly track the issue
    :woot:

speaking of Mac, not a problem for me, as I can run Medieval Cue Splitter reliably via Crossover 21, even on Apple M1

    hmm looks good too,
is it free, or would I need license to test it out thoroughly?

I have been using CUETools for quite a time. It also checks the tracks to the Accurate Rip database so you can see if your tracks have errors, and sometimes you can even repair them.

It even splits multiple *.cue files within multiple subdirectories with a couple of clicks.

For instance: If I have a parent folder containing 20 sub-folders and those sub-folders contain a *.cue WAV/FLAC, I can point the app to the parent folder - click 'start' and it will split all 20 albums up into individual tracks.

    Foobar2000 or Cuetools (FREE).

Medieval Cue Splitter isn't accurate to CD frames IIRC.

I use Foobar or CUEtools. Flawless. And both free.
From sister site, EZ CD Audio converter. Extremely easy. Like... VERY easy.
