One important thing to mention here is that firewire drivers still work well on Windows 11 (some companies such as Presonus said that they wouldn't). Was afraid that my Firestudio Mobile would quit if I upgraded but it chugs along on 11 quite well.

Windows 11 Enterprise, HP laptop w/Ryzen 2500U GPU, 16gb RAM, Presonus Studio24c interface, Nektar LX88+ controller

My audio performance, as well as video performance, is only slightly better with W11. I still get clicks and pops with either Studio One 5.5 or Cubase 12, but at least laying down tracks is a little smoother now. My laptop was originally W10 Home. Microsoft's tool said my computer has no TPM 2.0 module (it does) and I won't be able to load W11. I tried anyway and it works fine. The Windows Sandbox feature alone is worth its weight in gold. I wish they'd revamp their convoluted firewall. At least I got TinyWall, so there's that. I don't think I can put 32gb of RAM in. Still, I don't think that'll make the pops and clicks disappear.

Laptops are notoriously harder to adjust for smooth audio work. You have to adjust power settings to "high performance" so that the CPU doesn't throttle down/up, disable USB power saving, disable speedstep, or cool'nquiet in AMD case in the bios, disable unnecessary devices, wi-fi and blootooth are especially bad for CPU so turn them off, turn off the onboard audio etc.

You can use Latency Monitor to find out which devices are behaving badly regarding DPC latency, causing clicks when you're using just a couple of VST instruments. You should be able to run instruments and plugins up to 70-80% of CPU without clicks. If you can, assemble a proper desktop computer that is far more flexible/adjustable for audio.

I even disabled the camera on my Lenovo laptop to get smooth DPC latency without spikes, but when I turn on wi-fi I get spikes no matter what driver I use. Also regarding drivers, I had to use an older Nvidia driver for the onboard Quadro card to get rid of Nvidia's GPU DPC spikes.

Did MS actually change anything that could alter anything related to DAW work?

I don't see any point to upgrading to Win11 at the moment, but I don't know everything that was changed. I know that Win11 had problems with AMD Ryzens CPU/core-scheduling for some time (making it bad for DAW work), but that is fixed now right?

Btw, Windows Sandbox is available in Win 10 as well.

Yeah, i used logic before but i "converted" one of my big soundsets/projects into ableton. So i have a really good comparison with the new and old system. Like i said it runs pretty smooth.

I will get a new graphics card for some 3d render stuff in few months but for now im on the igpu.

    Also a screen of latencyMon

igpu is always better regarding DPC latency. However, AMD VGAs were always good, and newer 3xxx series Nvidia cards are better than before. I don't use discrete VGAs, but most of my clients do, and I always check DPC with the LatencyMon. When using Nvidia VGA, download Studio Driver and uninstall Nvidia Experience shit. Studio Driver should be more stable with pro apps, especially for editing video. Just the other day I was making an AMD computer with an Nvidia GPU and I was surprised with GTX 1060 DPC latency with v475 studio driver. Not bad.

it s a relief not seeing people who brag about the fact that they still use windows xp like it happened up to five years ago

People brag about stuff, but still use them.
Look at smartphones for example, everyone was bragging about Samsung and Apple discarding audio jack (rightly so), and yet they still buy their phones like nothing happened, even though they removed many features since then, instead of supporting other companies that still give you all the stuff Samsung and Apple discarded, they still support these two greedy companies.

Some of that applies to Windows too, I loved XP too, skipped Vista because there was no reason to upgrade, but as soon as Windows 7 came out I switched, because Win 7 was a great OS, and people were praising it.
Then Windows 8 came, people immediately hated it, even though majority didnt even tried it, it wasnt perfect, too much leaned on Tablet side, but was OK.
Windows 10 was another great OS like Windows 7 was, some people still complained, but a lot of them used it.
Windows 11 came out, and there were immediately small numbers of people hating it, but because of a lot of fake news, and obviously tpm (which is stupid TBH).
For me personally Windows 11 is modern XP, very quick and responsive out of the box, and if you disable some unneeded stuff, you are in for a treat.

BTW For everyone that likes Lite versions, there is NexusOS Windows 11 Lite, which is great OS for Gaming and Music Production.

I recently installed W11 in my laptop with a 320 hard drive, the W10 drivers for my model are 100% compatible with W11 (i dont have a blue screen or something like that atm)
I need a little more of time to test it (i have 2 or 3 days since i made the fresh install), but it looks like some plugins spend a little more resources on win11 (for me). Maybe its a W10 driver issue or something like that... if the things go well, maybe i decide to install it on my main SSD drive.

This is great news I have a TI fire wire card and a Old Pro 40 myself. I would hate to lose it just for an OS. Win 10 they said would not support fire wire either but I have had no issues. I keep the Fire wire as a back up got a Thunder bolt 3 card and a Quantum 2626.

You mean a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40? That's what I'm using at the moment, I also had the concern of this not working on Windows 11.

I would never move to a new OS while either mid-project or because of hype, shiny new things or word of mouth... Imagine not having a completely stable & proven OS but instead inviting unwanted chaos while you attempt to work!?

Always stick with an older OS version, all patches etc should be reported as 99.99% as stable as humanly possible. Only thing anyone should be updating on the reg is security patches & anti-allware etc... I'd lose my shit if I had issues with lost project's, damaged files, unknown bug encounters, newly introduced bugs, the list goes on.

Play it safe & work with an OS that's stable & familiar, Win 10 is still a joke & Win 11 is still a shit-show, my 2cents :bleh:

A good Microsoft OS, is a dead Microsoft OS.

Microsoft usually abandon an OS once it's stable and all errors are corrected.
I kept win 7 until 4 month ago.
After being obliged to buy a new computer which came with win 10.
Win 10 is now abandoned and very stable. I'll keep it instead of working as beta tester for MS.
