Well, the price certainly matters. Im prepared to pay a premium (to a point) for the convenience and compatibility of Mac. I use a PC only when I absolutely have to.

To me its the difference between a warm bath and stabbing myself in the eye.

I don't know of very many pc users who look at the price of a new Mac and say, "that looks like it's about 200$ favorable to me". I'm going to hop on this sale and switch OS. I am doing exactly what a Mac user will do, and wait to see the prices of all the available models and then compare them. when they are buying a new one....that's just shopping. not preaching to the un-converted.

People always claim that PCs are cheaper that might be no longer true since the macMini M1.
Anyone ever calculated how much it would cost to build a custom pc with value parts (low noise) and the same performance as a macMini M1?

Um. Isn't that precisely what this thread is about? Just shopping? Who's preaching?

I feel like Im watching a movie where the dialogue just switched from English to Cantonese.

Definitely a step up from my 2011 Thinkcentre office PC turned mediocre audio workstation

Do you have the macMini M1? I thought about getting it, since it's the only Mac I could afford. Is the M1 identical with the iMac M1 or is it the same lower performance mobile version of the M1 found in MacBook (Air)?

He's a belligerent wankspanner maybe? He's calling me a Moron but so far he seems to be only interested in passing moronic comments.

Sorry if you're offended that Apple has released a new model, so far you've been insulting me because you think I'm a salesman?
I'm sure he's trying to make a point.. so far I gather he has an old mac and old Mac OS and he's angry because I point out what most people making money from Mac's like me for some 35+ years.. it costs what it costs.. Do we get subtitles?

I am absolutely ecstatic with my Mac Mini M1 (16gb 512) Been totally reliable and I'd say the performance is outstanding. They're starting to appear second-hand seen them for around $900-$1200.. Good option. I have a 42" screen and use my Ipad Pro via the sidebar, works fantastic. I'd recommend it as a great buy for audio/video and general stuff.. I'm running The latest Bitwig and Studio One 5.5 with Resolve.. works great.

I have an i7 8th gen intel Nuc with 32 gig ram a 512gb system drive and an 8tb SSD (that I purchased off a guy used from his server spares for $600 AUD was around $1200 AUD
and it was around so around $500 cheaper than my Mac Mini M1 which was $1700 I'm after a smaller footprint and less power consumption. Its running Win 10 use this exclusively as an Audio server running Audio Gridder or standalone synths or Kontakt for my windows audio stuff

I haven't yet run into workloads which my M1 MacMini with 16GB ram and 2TB ssd couldn't handle - moderate projects in Reaper work just fine, and virtualization of MacOS/Windows x86 systems (in Parallels or VMware) is not supported at all anyway,

these new Mac Studio setups are still based on same architecture, so same processor speed, same single-core performance, same limited connectivity (even full Thunderbolt 4 cannot handle casual Samsung 980 NVME drive at full speed), same power/thermal efficiency (more cores will consume more power, no magic),
sure those machines are real beasts at decent price - M1 Max with 64GB/2TB is a bit cheaper than 2018' MacMini with 64GB/2TB, and the M1 Ultra with 128GB/4TB is around twice as cheaper than 2019' MacPro with 16-core Xeon and 128GB/4TB - but I know I couldn't utilize such power yet...

By your response, and on;y by your response, I would personally think that you are an Apple fan boy. I could be wrong. You could be like myself, a user of one or any of the following:
    • Linux (x86_x864 PC)
    • MacOS (Apple PC)
    • Windows (x86_x864 PC)

Apple has issued a formal apology to the music making community.

"Regarding all that equipment that we sold to you during the last many decades. We know we said it was earth shatteringly brilliant but we lied - please throw all that old stuff into the trash can. Finally, this time, we really have delivered a truly game changing technology. Now, at last, you can record a piece of music - halleluyah - and thanks for waiting"

Oh wait, the date on this is 2032. We still can't make music yet. Damn what a tease.

I started in this decades ago with hardware synths, a drum machine, a mic, and a mixer.
I discovered CoolEdit, Acid, Fruity Loops, and VST plugins. I also moved around a lot, so I sold the hardware. Had a PC laptop, a mic, an audio interface, a controller.
Then I disovered GarageBand and Logic. Oh boy.
I agree that the MBP 2012 is a workhorse. Still have mine fully upgraded RAM and SSD. OCLP allows me to run Monterey on it. Good for some live work along with my iPad.
Bought a MacMini for a nice little home server setup. I am sure I can get a compact pc that can do the job, but it was cheap.
Then more projects came, bought an MBP 2018 maxed out. Wrote it off on my taxes. But yeah all those Intel 2018's-2020 can handle stuff, but they get noisy. Eeek!
I waited for the M1 thing to settle down. The MacStudio is a nice beast to have, but I think I would pull the trigger for a M1 Pro Max, Maxed out RAM for sure and decent space for projects and libraries. Trading in that 2018 MBP to lessen the sticker shock a bit.
The amount of work I can put through that machine is lovely and keeping it quiet in the process.
You can argue that I could build my own PC, but I use laptops (portability and all that), except for frame.work the choices are kinda limited.
By no means I'm not bashing PC's. You use what you have at your disposal and make the best of it. I still have a Windows PC that I use also for some music-making and I have no complaints, but these M1 chips are something.

Now my only concern is integrating that new MBP with the goodies at the sister site. LOL.

Use what you have at your disposal and what you can afford. Milk the fuck out of it. You can have all the gear in the world, but it's worth fuck all if you don't know how to use it to your advantage and create something beautiful with it. WIN, MAC, Linux. Whatever fits your budget and workflow.

Anyway, end rant. I need a nap. Carry on.

Yes I have a macMini M1. All M1 (not max , ultra) CPUs are the same, except that the MBA has no fan and might throttle earlier if you drive it at 100%, besides that there is also a 7 Core version available in the MBA. Regarding the iMac M1, I haven't looked up teh spec yet, but it shoudl be the same a s the M1 macMini CPU wise. Getting a macMini seams to be the cheapest solution, and it roxx !

    Also these, with more coming!

Mac Studio full Teardown. Other than the HDMI port not being 2.1 or, the SD Card reader being VII, see what else Apple,
did not reveal in statements or text.

The Verge staff test the Mac Studio & Studio Display.
