i doubt that, since the patching is minimal:
VR patched 3 bytes overall, while TC patched 1byte.

VR has not touched Cubase 12.exe, but patched stuff in the elic and the Activator.
TC patched inside Cubase 12.exe and nothing else. Thats why the instructions are just install cubase and all its shit and then replace Cubase 12.exe with patched one by TC. While VR generated valid elic keys and patched a few things inside the eLic system to make it working.

So i doubt this really reduces stability. Since well Cubase just asks, HEY eLic? i am authorized/licensed? And eLic replies YES MOFO!!! (VR patched this side, that its always replying YES. Thats why we cant let eLic say hey to the Steinberg server.) TC just patched the HEY eLic part, so it will always return YES. Not sure which method is better? We will see ...

Both are minimal patching methods and thanks to Steinberg reducing protection over the components of Cubase, it was possible to keep it minimal.

I think you are overestimating them. I think they are simply thinking like Adobe. Professional users will keep paying the big bucks, they don't care so much about the "little users" that will be using the cracked one.

I think they've just hired a new better marketing consultant, they came up with the idea and the company just go with it. If I am the part of the marketing consultant I'd 100% suggested the same thing. It's obvious their old way sucks and not gonna make them more money.

I like all your thought, but I also tell you that don't forget that MS ALWAYS knew more than like 50% of Windows was/is/will be cracked/pirated.
They even allowed pirate Win7 to be upgraded to W10 for free. I think it's as basic as growing in market share.

exactly, that is the thing in the end. for years, cubase have fall behind other daws and now reducing the protection will make the daw widely available, so everybody can talk about it and praising/shit on it... which leads to people to buy it

I'm not suprised at all. The same story over years when it comes to Cubase Pro. I was looking forward to hearing that kind of review. Thank you.

That kind of review is kind of an unfortunate story and far away from the fact, because like many reputable users, and I can confirm that Team VR version is stable same as a legit software.
Remember Team VR Cubase is not modified, so possibility to crash are same as with the legit version.
If crashes happens it is not about crack but probably something else...
    I can guarantee you that.

And Adobe is like, feel free to crack our software because for commercial use you will need a license, which is payware...
One way or another at end you will have to pay for that software if you use it, that is the fact and that is what will grew Steinberg family.
They have lost a lot of potential and existing customers over past 10yrs, because of Studio One.
I personally know them a lot, and look here and over the internet.
All FLStudio users which wanted to go high level either have go for Cubase or Studio One.
I stayed on Cubase because I used to it, but most of people who didn't found good cracked solution or didn't had how to trial Steinberg software without the dongle, have gone to Studio One because it was all over the internet... Then comes to pricetag, and number of licenses they gave...
Well Steinberg have lost a lot of customers because of the dongle stupidity.
They could keep elicenser, just to take down the dongle so all older users and software could be used smoothly...
This time, they have made a big mess and their transition to new system will be a big pain in the ass for legit users which makes all Cubase, Nuendo, Dorico, SpectraLayers and all Steinberg software users, up to couple days ago, will make them obsolete...

It´s very stable here. Most what is discussed seems like its conformation bias.
A lot of peeps seem to overestimate the importance of bedroom producers.
    Like with the aforementioned Adobe.
They make most of their money through bigger organizations. So is Autodesk, Avid, Steinberg.

Seems to me, that Dongle -less Deployment in Large Orgs, like Schools and such, will reduce
the overhead costs of iT Departments and therefore make the sell of volume licences easier.

Maybe it is to appease the bedroom producer or even the Travelling Engineer, but i doubt it.

The only reason Cubase can be cracked "that easy" is: they need to gain back attention. Nobody (new) needs Cubase nowadays. But might use it now and get used to it in future.

You have good points as well. Thank you for your input. As a legit Cubase Pro 8.5 owner, I have experienced different crashes with the legit version.

Errrrmmm... The saying is exactly the opposite.

Is a simply question to back in competition with other daw where cubase was loosing clients, young ppl. Is a nice move imho for logical obvious commercial consequences.

I am a bit surprised, as should they want to keep their flagship products protected, they had enough time to engineer a solution that at least wasn't as trivial as three bytes to patch and no timebombs.

Knowing as much about protection as they do (they've been making dongles and various protections for decades, and they even own a fairly sophisticated licensing solution) - if they really didn't implement anything a bit tricker than patching an "is license valid" call, that implies to me that yes, they are hoping for some benefits from increased user penetration and visibility by easier "availability" of their software - while at the same time, freeing their legit users from any dongle inconveniences.

Especially as originally, their new license scheme was going to phone home at monthly, or by arrangement, yearly intervals, which they scrapped due to user feedback...

According to Steinberg the new licensing system make checks every month (or once every year for special offline installations). It's only been a couple of days so no one knows for sure if the installation will continue to work....
