I see they've just announced a new follow-up to the Neutron -- the Proton. Complelely original, semi-modular paraphonic synth for less than $300.

My new Jespers stand arrives this week, freeing up some desk space so I'll probably pick one of these up.

Also: those JP-4000's have an MSRP of just $49. Half the price of a Korg monotron or some such. At that price, they'll be a great Xmas/birthday present for the kids in my life.

If synth purists spent less time crying about these "cheap toys" and more time making interesting music, the market might give a damn. I've heard you fumble through your rough approximation of Lucky Man on your antique furniture full of leaky capacitors. I wasn't impressed.

It's an acquired taste. Just like the walls inside a prison :drunks:

i think there is a market for these cheap synths. aside from beginners who are just learning about synths, there are probably hobbyists who look at these "toys" as a way to acquire multiple different sounding synths for less than the price of one used synth. you don't have to use the garbage "keyboard" that is provided as long as it has a midi in. of course, there is no way of knowing how durable these things will be.
