There used to be a "saying" in New York anyway, that I first thought of when I saw this thread. It was called "White Lightning". It's when someone has a business that is worth less than their insurance policy; and so they would torch it and collect on the policy.

A real shame the Mexican Fenders are a pretty good deal for those who can't afford the overpriced USA builds, when I tried a few in my local music store had really bad fret sprout, I guess not a big deal if you file them down yourself. In the past companies took pride in their work and even the cheapest budget or beginner guitars were fairly well made and finishing was always a selling point.

 

You are overlooking the current market situation.
Wages in the Far East are not comparable with those in America and Europe.
You can no longer build a guitar in America or Europe at the prices of the Far East. The labor costs are too high.
