Sometime back in the ‘80s C64's SID synth changed my life forever. It is still a nice synth to have with an Mssiah cartridge.

ECHO Audio MIA MIDI - Easily the best sound card Ive ever used. It's a real shame they discontinued it along with their other audio interfaces. This thing was so stable and not once in the 8 years that I had it did it ever give me a single problem.

Unfortunately, I had to take ownership of this thread, to avoid further drama.

My first guitar pedal was a ProCo Rat, which was a truely good choice, because I did not have any clue about guitar pedals back then. The rat is still a classic one, no doubt. In 2010 all my pedals got stolen at a gig ... what a sad story. Two years later a was lucky to get some money back from the organizers insurance ... so I bought the Deucetone Rat, which is a faithful companion since then.

This is the real MVP when it comes to MIDI interfaces. Rock solid timing, never glitches and a decent MIDI monitor in front.

If I needed that many MIDI ports again it would be this, no questions asked.

People gush about the Mutator but when it comes to analog filter units, this one is it. Love mine and the modular aspect just makes it perfect.

The whole ganging up of the filters and using the harmonics is something special. You can drive it up nicely as well.

Also a nice design highlight: the two filters are not the same so basically you'd need two of these for processing stereo signals. But it's something else.

This was my first "real" audio interface, the Emu Audio Production Studio (APS). In 1999, it was kind of high end. 20 bit converters, effects and routing, 1/4 inch I/O, SPDIF, MIDI I/O, good mic preamps. My colleague at work was sent a unit from Emu, and he didn't know what to do with it. I told him "I know what to do with it", and he gave it to me. Emu ended support and Windows drivers with XP, but a private group, the KXproject has kept it going with open source drivers through Windows 10. I still have it on the shelf.

Had a MAudio 2496 for at least 15 years. Functionally probably identical to the MIA IIRC

Those Sherman Filterbanks are beautiful devices. This is another angular tabletop unit like that style. It has a 1/4" mono input that you can feed into the Ladder Filter.

Electrix Filter Factory - Bought in 1999 and kept it as my dedicated analog filter unit for over 10 years. Amazing sounding unit, loved running EPs and pad tracks throughout it, just made everything sound that much better.

Yamaha TG500 - One of my absolute favorite rack synths of all time. Extremely underrated synth mostly due to the menu diving when programming but for those with patience, it is a goldmine. Pads from this beast are spectacular.

Yamaha TG33 - Lovely vector synth comparable to a D50/D550. I owned both and was partial to the sound of the D50, but the TG33 definitely had a vibe. Bit of a sleeper synth IMO.

I'm jealous, I always wanted one. You can get "Z-planeish" filters as plugins but it's not the same.

I think this badass would be ripe for a recreation, don't you all think?

if all you want is the filter, you should check out the modular version of the filter. but this is current gear, and it's about 500 bucks.

Hartmann Neuron - Always wanted one of these but could never justify the price. I used the software version for some time (without the controller) and it was very interesting synth. The sound that came out of it was something in between a va/vector/granular hybrid, very distinct.
