Welcome to the Golden58 Stereo Tube Preamp-unique, original, yet reminiscent. Dripping with tons of tube character, grit and warmth. The perfect Companion for any Condenser Microphone AND BEYOND!
To start, THIS IS A LIMITED EDITION PRODUCT. There will only be 300 of these Golden58’s made. This is due to the rare nature of some of the components used. Once we run out, we run out…. For this reason we are capping this at a limit of 1 per customer please.
The Golden58 is a painstakingly made, high quality 2-Channel Microphone Tube Preamp. Utilizing 4 NOS input transformers! Each channel delivers 56db of Gain. All of this, combined with its six tubes and huge Polyprop caps, is bound to make all of your tube dreams comes true. The Golden58 captures that tube sound of the Golden-era in spades! The circuit is all original, based around the 5879 tube(hence the name Golden 58), which is the US military equivalent of the EF86 tube used in famous British preamps. In fact, we feel it is very much the American Answer to those Classic preamps from across the pond, the Tele V series and 47 style pre’s, with a few tasteful upgrades to bring it from yesteryear into the modern age. With the handy voice filters and separate Line Input jacks, this simple, yet elegant, preamp can cover a lot of ground. With the help of Hi-Fi wizard Damon Coffman (tube guru & founder of Coffman Labs), we took his truly unique design and molded it over the course of the last 2 years into what became the Golden58. It’s truly the perfect companion for any serious Condenser Microphone and a next level tool for post production work. This is the equivalent of purchasing a fully restored vintage preamp with NOS transformers and tubes. As the name suggests, its tone is as Golden as its front panel. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE SAMPLES, IT REALLY SHOWS HOW THIS UNIT WARMS THE TRACKS

They are ALWAYS sold out within a day for everything that they fabricate. They montage small batches and everything that they make is killer. My next round of hardware is coming from them.

It can't be worse than the Klark 2A-KT that I bought. It sucks tone like nothing I've ever heard before. I am shy to even try to resell it is sooo bad.

But seriously, I never use compression on my vocals to the extreme. I prefer to give it little, multiple gentle massages to the signal.

    Oh.

Right, digital compressors or levelers are mostly better for this.

That is an understatement. With the exception of the XL 305 Reverb, every other item is sold within 10-15 seconds! Sometimes the 76D will last a couple of minutes.
You can't go wrong. Compare the build quality and sonic capabilities at such an attractive price, and it is a no brainer. I am lucky to have everything they have put out, with exception of the XL305.

Now, I need more rack space which is almost as expensive, as some of the AudioScape hardware, and you have to wait weeks for it to arrive...and of course, a patch-bay which also costs a bundle. Indeed, unless you want to go the Samson or Neutrik route be ready to spend $1000+ on a patch-bay and connectors. Fuck Hosa!

I should say that they sound better that the air compressor you love to insert in the master buss. :hillbilly:I put the AudioScape Opto comp against any UA LA2 either old or new or any other. The D-Comp is a beast on drums. The 76s are better than those from Black Lion,Hairball and Weiss (to my ears). And the Golden58? This baby is sweet, sweet, sweet. I am using it on phone calls to pick up girls that work on customer support phone banks. I can't wait for their clone of the Fairchild 670. That is ought to be something special. Finally, comparing, a KT1176 to any of the aforementioned is unfair. First, I don't think the KT sound bad at all. In fact, I don't think that KT was going after the sound of any particular revision of the 1176. Why they decided to paint it black? I have no idea but I will add that they should have painted those KT2 in red, green, yellow, whatever. Have they done so, nobody would be comparing them to others. They would simply be the KT 1176 with their own unique sound for under $300! I am not ashamed to say, I love KT1176, the EQP-TK, and DN 410 EQ.

Right, I should have added that I Iike their basic sound and even the higher compression on other sources. I only specifically pointed this out to Lois because I know that he's recording his vocals.
And yes, the Golden58 has really a nice sound.
I assume tracking/mixing a complete song with their equipment makes an audible difference to a pure ITB production.

I am with @Lois Lane on not using comp on vocals. I don't even use eq 9 times out of 10. I let mic selection and placement take care of those issues that are often corrected with comps and eq. I am also with you on hardware sounding different than vst's. As you know there is "something" from a hardware comp, eq, synth, that is missing on even the best vst emulations.

    Disclaimer
To those vst's fanbois, I want to clarify that we did not use the term "better". Instead we use "different" which in itself does not implicate quality. Whether a hardware comp or eq sounds better than a vst is totally subjective and content -dependent. With that said, if you were to ask me in private I will say that to my ears hardware ....:grooves:

I actually do use compression on my vocals and just about everything else, though judiciously and in small helpings knocking of just a few dB here and there, usually using clean machines. Since I bought Fircomp2 it has been splattered around my canvas as if like in a Jackson Pollock painting. For dirtying up I rediscovered the VOS BootEqMkii which is a freebie but worth a million bucks. The preamp section does the smutz thing nicely to my old deaf ears and the wide bands of EQ sweeten things up very nicely.

I do choose mics for what I wish to hear and placement is crucial. Vocal technique is a must if I want to keep everything tight and not depend of more than the 3 to 5 dB I hit it with on the way in with a Warm WA76.

After the 76 go into an LA2A. A classic chain for tracking vocals.:hillbilly:BTW, the Fircomp2 is a super bargain vst. Much better than vsts costing 10 times more.

I totally agree about the LA-2A after the 76, though unfortunately bought a Klark Teknik KT-2A which both sucks balls and tone out of anything I put through it. That's why when I have an infusion of cash will be getting the AudioScape version as well as a few other goodies for my signal chain. The KT is a doorstop.

Damn that looks nice. What have you been using the 76A / F on? Aside from phone calls to customer support girls, have you run any source material through the Golden58 line ins? I'm very curious about that.

Check out MisterPatchbay. He has really nice deals on TT patchbays with whatever connections you want (DB25, XLR, TRS...)

Yeah I have their D Comp, V Comp and Buss Comp. The Buss and D were actually pretty easy to get right at 8. The V Comp got away from me the first time. You gotta be ready right at 7:59...
