I am trying to save some cost by buying the eris 3.5 Bluetooth but I wanted to know if there's latency in using it in the various daws. And how does the Bluetooth audio compare to the non-bluetooth version?

you'll need 1,4 Mbit/s to get a CD audio quality 16 bits 44 kHz.
bluetooth is under 1MBit/s using destructive audio codec technologie (like minidisc) to hide some frequencies.

excepted for a mastering in low def check, or a mobile usage, it is useless.
it will sound like a mp3 128Kb/s

 

afaik bluetooth 5 is up to 2MBit/s, which is the revision the Eris are using.

 

how about latency in daw?

 

At Thomann the BT version of the Eris 3.5 is appr. €25 more than the non BT version. I'd rather buy a second hand Behringer UM2 than using BT.

 

when I tried to use my Apple Airpods with a macbook pro, the extra latency in Ableton/Logic was above what I find tolerable for tracking live instruments, 15-30ms or so if I had to guess.

 

it evolved a few, bluetooth 5.3 is only annouced
but the vast majority of hardware, especially Bluetooth headsets, are still stuck in the Bluetooth 4.0 era released in 2010.

Eris 3.5 + UM2 is a decent budget solution. You could always upgrade the audio interface later, and/or get an extra subwoofer for those Eris speakers (not a lot of bass from these 3" speakers).

What would be the most you'd be willing to spend on your setup? There might be better options for a bit more money.

 

I'm using it for my portable rig. Bluetooth connects pretty flawlessly to my phone.
However they do not sound good. They are very rattle-y sounding. I would go for the 4.5s as a minimum preferably the 5s.

The inherent flaw in this style of speakers is that one has all the amps inside and the other is just passive. I'd have to take it apart to confirm this, but I believe because they are not two identical speakers you cant get an accurate stereo image.

And do not think about using bluetooth for DAW work. between the compression/low bit rate and the latency you'd be hurting yourself.

 

Consider a set of iLoud Micros instead

 

They're 2 to 3 times more expensive, TS considered using BT to save costs.

how about using them without the interface or bluetooth but through the rca to aux(to laptop), is the audio going to be bad?

 

It might depend on how you are going to use your setup. If your main goal would be creating ideas and making songs, you'd come a long way with the internal audio-device of your laptop/desktop. Also there's quite a quality difference between several audio-devices used in such machines. But it would be less suitable for mixing/mastering tracks, or recording instruments or vocals. In general, an external audio-interface would really improve your sound quality, even a budget card like that UM1 or a M-Audio.
