I suppose is doing that cut on the master bus? You generally don’t low cut on the master bus unless is needed (for example when you master a song and only have a stereo file) and with the gentlest filter that does the job.

When you mix, you address each track on the project (with low cut or shelf) so you won’t need to do it at the mastering phase. This ensures your precious kick will not get a weird phase due to master channel processing.

 

Yeah. I don't know and understand why people hate this guy. In 2022 and with the ocean of softwares, I don't think we need nerds to explain to newbie producers why we should use a certain u-he or acustica. People actually want stuff done as quick as possible and his videos appeal to these kind of audience. Besides, I don't see him passing out wrong informations in his videos. Plus, top developers even want him to feature their products. He doesn't seem to be misleading people, but giving his POV. I find his videos a quick reference to decision making, especially with so much to choose from.

None can, it's just a consequence of natural (analogue) phase/zero latency mode plus a very steep cut. However, you can use linear phase, which comes with latency and pre-ringing, minimum phase, which is somewhere in between, or free phase, which unfortunately hardly any EQ offers.

A better plugin is the one that forces you to jump through less hoops for the sound you want. That's it. If a person is used to jumping hoops, it doesn't make their workflow less of a circus routine, even if the result is impressive.

Human perception is like a snowflake. Sure every snowflake is unique when it comes to detalis, and there's a lot of variation, but you'll know it's a snowflake when you see one, because at its core, all snowflakes are actually the same. They are all born from the same physics and share the same low-level structure and high-level features. Likewise, at its core, human psyche is universal.
What this means for art, is that the same basic things make all humans feel the same way. This makes art, in my estimate, less than 50% subjective. And mixing is even less so!

Minimum phase is the usual way of making zero latency modes in EQ.
In fact, I don't even know of any other way to make a zero latency EQ.
And it is what's usually associated with phase shifts and cramping.
Also linear phase with 96 dB/octave is going to ring like hell. Arguably worse than a phucked up phase response.
Also also dafuq is free phase? What EQs use it?

Way far from the worst. He doesn't know everything, but 7 times out of 10 he's spot on wih the criticism. With praise not so much, more like 4 out of 10. Also acknowledges his limitations and doesn't try to sell tutorlais, like say Sage Audio. That makes him a bit above the average.

People look at these vloggers as if they will discover some holy grail plugin for them or maybe they feel special after he mentions a plugin they use.
Saying waves sucks or uad is the best does not make you cool or better or more advanced, i can name you a lot of pro producers who still use old outdated plugins with success.

ATME, minimum phase can very well come with latency. I suppose it's because there's no real definition of what min phase has to look like exactly (if it's more on the linear phase side, it comes with latency, if it's more analogue phase, it comes without).

Yep. But this only matters for sounds with a fast attack. You can low cut cut a soft pad with 96dB slope without necessarily having audible pre-ringing.

The only one I know of is DMGAudio EQuilibrium. For low cuts above 12dB slope it's the phase mode I use the most.
