I need to stop this: downloading, tweaking the OS buying and selling hardware.
I have god knows how many terrabytes of software, samples, videos, books and tutorials that would take a thousand lifetimes to get through.
I have RSI in my elbow and it's GOT TO STOP!!!
    Any advice appreciated.

    Clients usually demand deadlines.

    Deadlines force one to create.

    Get a client.

The worst thing that ever happens to me on a creative level is when the deadline (delivery) is vague. Deadlines are the stress that is often required for creativity. Its a love/hate thing.

Remove distractions? Turn off your WiFi, uninstall games, turn off your phone, no browsing at all.
Just your DAW and you for a couple hours every day.

First, abandon the idea of being "prepared" to make music. The only way to learn how to actually do something is to do it, fail, figure out why you failed and try again. Theory helps, but you ain't gonna learn to ride a bicycle by reading a bicycle encyclopedy.
Get yourself a MIDI keyboard and just play something. Record a melody, or some chords, in MIDI. Let yourself be inspired by it. Lay out some structure, make it into a basic carcass of a song. Then fill it out.

I'm on a steady stream of releasing one single a month. That's my main priority. That is, every month a song is ready with album cover and a short social media promo video. I have a buffer of about 4 months now. But I felt it tight at one month :) Just when I have spare time I test new plugins, interact on forums and whatnot. If you just reverse your priorities, you'll make music. Pretty simple

    Format your computer
Reinstall the bare minimum you think you will need. One compressor one EQ etc.. maybe go to 2 if you use other options. Do not install anything else until you have given it a good month of trial to see if you like an get on with it. swap only one for one other so you never have too many options installed.
Same applies to synths. Just the bare minimum

Eventually, you will have a better understanding of what you want and need. Also your ability to get the best out of each device will flourish too

Exactly, + give yourself 1 hour to decide which 15 plugins you're going to use. Install them and disconnect the drives where other installers are.

    Force yourself to extreme limit.

You have 7 days to come back here with a song.....
Or you will be banned. :winker:

    :woot: Is this a typo? Didn't you mean to write 2 - 5 and 3 - 5?

EDIT: And 1 - 0 sound libraries? [IMG]
