I started collecting warez in the days before the World Wide Web.
When all you had was an a: prompt and 7 inch floppies.
DLing stuff from bulletin boards with a 1200 baud modem..... Must have been 1986.

Ads have no effect here, i wven avoid them as plague. With the warezing its more like, hey it was there for free, lets download it and it has a potential chance of getting used in the future. Or for the pure joy of seeing a 40GB getting downloaded in 30-40 mins. Man the 56k days, as it took forever for 5MB, guess its that too. (The UVI stuff was funny enough to download, but i will sample some and then delete it. I mean its still on torrents and i could get it at any time again.)

I thought about buying hardware synth, but in the end, i better keep the money. Also having a virtual synth its just so much easier. (As i tried to connect my only Hardware sound module i have to my soundcard, i noticed with how many darawbacks this came, finding the right cables, having cables laying around - dust, storage space, enough connection to audio interface, Latency (i still havnt figured this out, its gone when i record via ESC notes), power consumption, etc). I bought quite a few vsts in fhe past, which is still use and they fit on my notebook, can take with everywhere i am.

I would never buy food, tech after an ad, simply bcs i dont see any ads and i always decide do i really need that? Is there a better solution? Cheaper, without power consumption, etc i think about that always for a while ...

So maybe these studies can be wrong for some ppl here including me?

But in the end studies always respect the minority not being conform with the mass reaction ...?

    Sorry typed on phone ...

You use your brain very well, thinking about whether you really need there is completely missing with some, because with some the greed is upstream. Some people believe that they will be happier with all the hardware, but the stress starts first, then the cost of repairs.

Display not available or too small, mixer connections too little, hum disturbances, long delay times and so on. Then a new mixer. The room in which you live is also getting smaller.

Makes an impression, of course, when you get a visitor. I also put my behavior very often to the test. Sometimes it's really
trial and error. Or afterwards one is always smarter. The industry and Ebay are happy about the buying greed of the people.

For some users it is toys for adults, so the play instinct is satisfied. Well, some are driven and some use your brain,
besides happy people buy less. The advantage of greed is that it creates jobs but destroys raw materials.

Hardware costs raw materials and energy to produce, also energy is consumed in transportation and packaging.

The old analog becomes the new digital. We as humans have accumulated so much
knowledge and paper that only the computer helps us to manage and control it.

    @grounder
Hey, what a great story, and not to take away from it at all, but that Radio Shack catalog link was amazing, thanks for sharing that!

Years ago when I first found the RS catalogs online, I sat there one day for like 6 hours just combing through them. :) I hadn't looked in awhile so was glad today to still see them online.
I remember when I came across the 3-way speaker crossovers I used in the early 80s in some 120 pound monster 'coffins' I built. Lots of memories in those cats.:)

Is this the musical equivalent of hoarding?

No. "hoarders" collect anything. junk mostly. Very few with "GAS" are bringing home things like broken oboes they find dumpster diving. as example. It's also why you will never barn find a Split Window hiding under 18 bails of newspapers from 1972. the old lady's 35 cats might tip you off the difference :). people with GAS have either too much free time and money, or screwed up priorities, but those hoarder people are bat shit crazy.
