2656 Nordlead 2 Patches (*.SYX) for the discoDSP - Discovery Pro VSTi - 1,29 MB

discoDSP - Discovery Pro Imports Nord Lead 2 SysEx data.

Sven Saur collected 2560 NordLead2 patches from the internet and from other musicians.
Some are already known in the archive, some are tweaked and others are completely new.

    Categories: Arpeggio / Bass-Lead / Brass / Misc / Pad-Sweep / Piano-Organ / Wood-Guitar

Unfortunately the download source has dried up and it would be a pity for the Nordlead patches.
Therefore here is a backup download. Many thanks to Sven Saur for the work.

Somebody is selling a Nord lead 2 for 600€ here. Do you think it worth it for live use?

Hi Olymoon, I would rather opt for the rack version, also does not take up so much space ! Is also cheaper.
    Nord Rack 2 500 € ---> www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/nord-rack-2/1971368184-74-3393

Yes, if the keyboard is still in order, it is really worth it for live performances. 600 EUR is O.K !

Nice one thanks, I take these work in an original Nordlead 2... will find out shortly, I guess :)

Would agree the rack version would suit me better these days, but I still love my Nordlead.

Thank you for your answer. Now I will study it's possibilities, split, multi sounds etc ...
About the rack, yes I can see the usefulness, but I live in an island. I depend on local offer. The rest is generally too expensive once transport fees added.

Olymoon, I would disagree about using a Nordlead 2 for LIVE performances. When you are playing a Nord Lead 2, you get very fast at hitting the Panic button; because MIDI notes SO often "stick ON". It is right above D#2 on the front panel.

They were not just "being thorough" when they put it on the front panel. it's there because you will need it.

Not many write about it, because it is a very old synth to be using for performances anyway! No-one cares when buying them because we know it's going to get heavily sampled, not played Live.
It's just a pain in the neck random feature you would not expect from something that was a 2000$ synth when it was released.

For the price mentioned, I'd probably buy it anyway. But I'd like to know this first. Maybe even "check it" and then end up buying it for 400. You will easily be able to get it to malfunction.

Ironically, do you live on the same island it would cause you so much shipping expense, as it's owner? It also means the owner probably has almost no-one else they can sell it to :X

I have one that i exchanged with a Juno106, and it was probably the biggest mistake of my life. It wasnt supposed to be permanent but the guy i dealt with disapeared with my Juno... (this MF is a famous singer, here in France and he also stole me a guitar, it took me years to get my hands back on it)
may be that's why i don't like this synth at all

Ouch. well, at least you now have 2600 more patches for it :(

And this plugin works on Mojave with it firewalled, if you ever track down your Juno.

Ohhh. Thank you. So it's a no go. Thank you for the advice. I almost throw 600 euros through the window.

Even the Access Virus TI Desktop, is sometimes frozen at preset change etc, and then had to be restarted,is quite annoying.

exactly. but you never know when it is going to do it. as I said, at the price; I'd probably buy it. it's average price. but if I was thinking about using it live, it would not be my pick.

Not true. Clavia synthesizers are some of the most stable and problem-free ever made! I have Nord Rack 2 for almost 20 years and never seen the problem you describe.

ps. Discovery completely different sound from NORD, thin / cold / dead...

You are both talking about rack mounted NL2 unit. He is asking about buying a used hardware device that has a keyboard and wants to play it live. Normally, I don't recommend something for a certain purpose; and then let them know about ease of repair for all the common problems with them. I would rather know upfront and make my decision.

I have fixed the one that I still own multiple times. I know they are easy repairs, mostly. That doesn't mean much if you have to ship a backordered capacitor from China in the middle of recording some bands record. or whatever Olymoon does with his music equipment . They are old units. dead keys are even to be expected. power supply issue, likely cord is replaced?

I've owned every iteration of the Lead series with the exception of a Nord Lead 1. My favorite of them all are the A1 (which I still own and use daily), and the Nord Lead 2. I sold the NL2 to upgrade to a NL2X and wish I hadn't because the updated DAC's on the NL2X changed the character of sound, same patches but a bit crisper and colder than the NL2. When you buy Clavia synth, youre buying it for 2 things: immediacy and the character of the sound. It's that simple.

I can confirm that notes do get stuck on the NL2 and NL2X which happened frequently, but although the A1 has a panic button I have yet to experience stuck notes in the 5 years that Ive owned it. I also never had any issues with stuck notes on the Nord Wave.

As far as comparing Discovery to Nord Lead, it's just not even close. After selling my NL2X to upgrade to an NL3, I wanted still use a handful of presets which I loved on the NL2 series. I imported the NL2 factory preset midi files on the Discovery and they werent even close. A real disappointment considering that is the mainly selling point of that vst.

This guy's video does a horrible job at showcasing the sound of an NL2 but his excitement is genuine because thats the same I have felt every time I buy a Nord lead:

These are much better videos at showcasing how beautiful this synth can sound:

You dont underestimate how much DAC play in the role of a hw synth compared to soft synth version. It can make a very high difference.
We argued about that as testing the beta versions of the virus Emu (real ROM for virus b/c loaded) version the hardware version and you can hear the difference - which was only the DAC.

The question is how much reverse engineered DIscoDSP has an actual NL2? I mean dumped the code and analysed not just rebuild the signal path, but also for example the filters, oscilators. Its actual not allowed to do that w/o asking Clavia.

For the DSP Virus emu it was actual okay to used ROM dumps and make them work and emulate the DSP chip.

But i know what you mean, when you say that the VST sounded dead, noisy and cold. I have noticed this on many softsynth, some sounded more of that digital coldness (actual NL, Virus are already digital.) - I bet if one could emulate the NL2 in the way we could do with the Virus b/c, then we could have a true emulation running with having the HW?

Thanks for the presets, i mean i still like Discovery Pro, i have it installed and i like the Signal Path and the way how it produces sounds, its unqiue and has its place in the softsynth world.
