I think people probably use SR4 in combination with other (Room simulation) plugins like Realphones before SR4 on their master effects chain. That was why I allowed users to choose/ vote for multiple options on the poll.

As my main headphones are DT-150s this thread has meade me want to check out the beyerdynamic - Virtual Studio (bVS) but after a bunch of searching I keep following links to a page on their site selling headphpnes and no plugin download option? Can anyone direct me here?

dearvr monitor has worked well for me, especially the newest version with headphone compensation. i rarely leave it on while doing a whole mix, but i'll engage it here and there during the process (similar idea to double checking things in mono).

that plugin has definitely helped me improve my speed at getting my mixes to the point that they're translating really well between systems

 

I have had a hardware SPL Phonitor for years. The cross-feeding circuit has been amazing https://spl.audio/en/spl-produkt/phonitor-x/?v=fa868488740a. I included a link to the current model. I paired that with great headphones and eventually a touch of Sonarworks to flatten it a bit. It has served me well. It looks like CanOpener would pair nicely with a good dedicated headphone amp to get a similar result. I am very keen on trying virtual Atmos (or other) surround without a ton of fake room reverb using minimal HTRF to produce the result. It will not replace my monitors but sure does give you another good perspective while mixing in surround.

 

@ArticStorm They aren't some random headphones, they're professional studio headphones which work together with the Yamaha HS8 studio monitors which have very similar flat frequency response curve. Not completely off topic, mentioned as it could be helpful to others who are looking for a great set of headphones which also match the monitors to get similar sounding feedback without annoying neighbours.

 

Sonarworks just fix the freq response of headphones, but what plugins like Sienna does is running sound into different channels to imitate the sound of speakers. As a result, your track in speaker monitoring wouldn't sound muffle and lifeless.

Sienna works for me, though it is recommended not to listen on headphones. I still have ringing in my ears after many years.

 

Yes, it does, but I personally prefer the Sonarworks Reference Correction. Of course you could go without Reference, if the inbuilt headphone correction suits you.

 

Realphones is not only a Room Simulator, but it also flattens the response for several phones like "Sonarworks Reference"
So if one use Sonarworks in conjunction with another software which both introduce latency either....

Only downside is that you have to make an account and download the Aquarius software to install it.
Btw, the plugin has some GB of files and data.
And, within the Aquarius desktop App, you also will find some other free plugins you could download.

 

Just got Aquarius Desktop and the Sienna Free download is ~5.7GB for everyone else.

Hm, which DAW are you using? I'm using Studio One, having the plugin on the (activated) listen bus, and no Problems with latency at all.
You could try "MinusDelay" after the Sienna plugin. It is a free plugin that can make a negative delay. I don't know if that helps, but probably worth a try.

Didn't understood bro... The Reference plugin is the streamlined version of Sienna Rooms including only the headphone frequency correction without simulating a room, but in the Sienna Rooms and Sienna Guru plugins the headphone correction still present on the top right corner.
And yeah, I used it for a while but turn out it was not helping much to make my mixes translating better. But again, it's just my personal experience with my HD650s, not saying the software is bad or anything, just didn't work for me.

Ok,yeah. Now I see what you mentioned. Well, then probably Realphones is better for Live-Music. I own bot of them, and both have quite a good quality, so it´s just to choose, for which purpose it fits, as for the Sienna Studio, you have some Studio Setups to choose from. But hey, to everyone as he pleases, right?
