My brother-in-law is a skilled carpenter. He says that he recommends that the boards on which the heavy equipment stands must be made of laminated wood instead of massive wood, otherwise they will inevitably bend over time no matter how dense/thick the boards are (because drying wood fibers bend and twist. Different layers counteract this).

there seems to be a misunderstanding there about what is "heavy equipment".

What is there to notice about the height of the above? That version is 4 rack units high (x3wide) from the top of the desk to the bottom of the shelf. But the original graphic shows 2 rack units above the Virus. And it is more than a 2 rack unit sized synth, the Nord on the other side is smaller iirc. so depending on their rack depth, it is going to factor in to how far they can be tilted backwards to save vertical space. meaning custom measured nearly everything. you can also end up having to cut steel rack unit rails that way.

This is true for most wood types but has he specifically experienced the bending with massive Paulownia panels?

Are you sure you do not want to make it double monitor capable????
Later on it will be too late.
Once you go Dual you don't go back

Downloadable plans and a video on this page (just for ideas)
I do not like the shelf area but that can be changed

The problem is that nowadays wood is not dried long enough. In the past, wood was dried for several years, today, if you are lucky, a few weeks. Or it is dried in boilers, so that moisture remains in the core.
When the wood is finally dried (at the customer's site), it twists because the core and the outside have different coefficients of expansion. Although glued laminated plywood also shrinks and bends, it doesn't do so nearly as much because the cross-gluing counteracts it.
Carpenters would only do horizontally laid panels spanning a gap in plywood for warranty reasons.

Why would they sell paulownia as plywood when it makes no sense?

I wouldn't take any chances, but of course Plywood is significantly more expensive.

    My own experience:
In my winter garden I have installed beams made of Plywood: minimal twisting.
My father saved money and took solid beams: They look like corkscrews.
