LOL I tottally know what you mean because I've held the same opinion for years while giving anything and everything else a fair chance not knowing why I didn't like country and it puzzled me as a musician because I wanted to know why I didn't like it so I could avoid repeating it in my own music.

Then I found Outlaw Country, Slow Country and Western Music. Then, everything changed for me.

 

You knows! Oh you knows, keep them coming. I'm loving every submission. I know nothing about Cajun music so that was very interesting.

Jerry Reed - for similar reasons to JB, that last one Amos Moses may not strictly be country but damn if that isn't one swampy riff.

Hank WIlliams jnr - my third favourite Hank Williams - yeah, he's an arsehole but I do like some of his stuff

Flying Burrito Brothers - some of the best spaced out, fuzzed out guitar tones in country IMO

 

Country music and it's many derivatives is a very important genre, but where do you draw the line between Country, Folk & Americana, etc? I guess I am attracted to music with a certain kind of sound, without worrying too much about the finer details ..

In post-Soviet countries, most people do not have an understanding of the depth and diversity of country music. And they perceive it the way it is presented in the "The Blues Brothers" movie (which I adore by the way):

Some really great suggestions in here by many. Thank you.
But I must confess that many suggestions also didn't sound like country music to me at all. Perhaps country-rock, at best.
So I would at least consider 3 "types" of country music:
-traditional country, completely acoustic with banjo, fiddles, guitars and vocal harmonies
-modern country, with full strings orchestra (come on.. really?), smooth and nearly sickening sweet
-post-country, new, young musicians writing own stuff but with a foot in trad. country

Of these 3 above I stay firmly in the trad. country, with second the post-country.
I totally despise the modern/pop country.
That's me.
