If the artist (creator) of music being mixed is not present when it is being mixed down or mastered...well...anyone expecting it to sound exactly like they want it even with a full document of requirements written out for the engineer and with said 'artist's' perfect choice of hardware to mix/master, without being there, will be likely disappointed.

I guess what I am trying to say is if anyone wants something to sound the way they want they have to participate in the process directly. Saying Product X is better than Product Y may well be true on paper, but if anyone wants something to sound a certain way, I believe the less present the 'artist' is, the less likely they output will be what they want. The owner of any audio can only expect to get back what they put in IMO.
There are many examples of good mixes out there, done with stock no-frills plugins and ordinary hardware to support this. The engineer's skills and the creator's participation if Sympatico, generally produce a decent result more than all the bells and whistles IMO.

SO what you're saying is, if i put a $200 DAC in one of those ziploc bags, it goes up to $3000? I'll have your entire stock.

That last one thoug. Whith something so unstable as sound perception you can only hope the manufacturers and comunity to keep things honest. It's crazy the amount of stuff you can hear (or ignore) when missdirected. Stay focused people.

He makes some good points. FWIW, muddy waters are good for business and that will not change as long as this world exists. The onus is on the buyer/user to cut through the haze.
