No disrespect but these types of "projects" always seem like the biggest waste of time to me.
Spending hours remaking a song that's already been made? i just don't get it.

I dont think so. You learn alot about your tools. I mean you dont have the same tools as they had, but still you can get close to the original.

It's the same as learning guitar players spending hours to get down Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven or whatever it is beginning guitar players spend hours to learn.

Why didn't you include the acapella? It's freely available.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but you do know there was an instrumental of that on the B side of the original 12'' ? That said, I can appreciate the effort you put into it.

True AS, but somehow it feels a bit redundant working for hours and HOURS on end on a track where there is already an instrumental version available.. I make a lot of them too, but I always try and find those where there isn't already one.

Good job on recreating the arrangement of the song (the midi parts). It could be improved by working on the mixing side (levels, eq, reverb, etc...) and studying the original sounds in a more clinical way, as it is it sounds a little bit "generic" (no offence) but it's a good start to make a convincing remake. Recreating a song it's a good way to learn and master techniques in all aspects of music production. There are sounds that are easy to make it 100% identical to the original ones and others that are difficult if not impossible but it's almost always possible to make them more than convincing, so if you have the time and will continue to study the song and work on it till you get it better.
The rythmic section (drums and bass) and the synth brass is where I find it more different from the original in terms of sound so I would start from there. The right eq curves and the right verb are your friends with the drums. Synth brass is way high in level and the vibrato is not 100% correct in certain passages. A synth like dexed/arturia dx7/plogue ops7 plus roland juno/jupiter would be my choice for recreating the right synth sounds. I could write other things but I'll stop here cause you didn't even ask for advise, so why start an ultra long dissection on your job? My 2 cents
