It finally looks like we will have FX-chain oversampling in Reaper

You can try it out by installing the latest dev release from https://www.landoleet.org/

There will ofc be some problems with plugins that don't support sample rates beyond a certain point (usually 192kHz), but being able to have 2x or 4x oversampling, depending on if you work in 48 or 96kHz, is still a great feature!

I don't think there is a other DAW out there that has this functionality (or is there?), so once again REAPER is first
(If you don't count DDMF Metaplugin, but it's more of a VST-host only!)

Some stock Reaper plugins already have oversampling. Being able to over any compatible plugin is a welcome feature.

I think it's only ReaLimit that has it (it has HQ and Low Latency modes, don't know if it's actual oversampling), unless you are talking about all of the JS plug-ins? ReaComp used to have a anti-aliasing mode, but it never worked and just made everything sound like crap.

ReaFir also comes to mind as another one using the FFT Size & Quality settings.

Because they already have an army of monkeys (users) working on it..

As much as I love Reaper I have to agree tho,
stock GUI was not improved but worsened in 5th and then 6th version.

Stock v4 theme is much better imo,
but I don't like the green sheen, so I much prefer the mod/theme called "Default Analog 1.8",
best theme for Working  (on the TCP)

Otoh you've got +1000 Themes on the Stash,
lots of Good ones, some of them Great or even Incredible..

Just take a look and see what works for you/workflow.

(In fact a the 2022 version of the Reaper Themes Collection is about to pop on the sister site,
It was submitted on new year's eve, so it's a matter of time..
there you'll have all the themes, updated and classified )

For many, if not most, It's fine as it is.
Themes are a matter of of taste and wanting something to be different (for various reasons per person).
Time wasted tweaking could be better used for creation of & finishing ideas or, developing better workflow using scripts, extensions, layouts & templates for specific tasks/sessions.

Ah, yes! Forgot about ReaFir. I don't know if it actually uses any oversampling, but the quality alternatives has to do something I guess! "Reduce artifacts" makes it linear-phase but reduces the filter effectiveness.

So will all Processes/FX directly/unequivocally Benefit from this new FX-Chain Oversampling feature,
as long as they're compatible with high sample rates?? (88/96/192-khz)

If the implementation is flawless, I guess Compressors and maybe EQ/Filters could benefit..
But what about all the other processes?

And what happens if you mix self-oversampling plugs with regular ones?
Can the thing be activated per-effect, or only for the Full chain?

If they decided to use Voxengo's oversampling algorithm it would make me very happy.

Since they announced using Voxengo's SRC algo for sample rate conversion, it's only logical to implement it for chains, too. ;)

    Groovey! :headbang:

That's great news! Would be interesting to see how it's implemented.

DDMF's Metaplugin is the only proper alternative, but for some reason it doesn't scan a lot of my plugins. For example, POD Farm 2 doesn't show up in the list, even if manually try to scan it. However, it loads up the 32-bit version of the plugin without any issues. :dunno:
There's also an old utility named VST Oversampler, but it works with 32-bit plugins only.

Reaper is what you make it.

If you want to insert a MIDI clip by double clicking, go to preferences>editing behavior>mouse modifiers, choose track and double click and assign the action "Insert new MIDI item". It takes maybe 30 seconds.

If it's to complicated for you, then choose another DAW.

Full chain. I tried it. But lots of bugs. It's not a release candidate.

Right click on first fx and scroll down to find "Chain oversampling".

i challenge anyone to hear the difference between sampled and oversampled. I want to hear an a/b clip that shows it is better.

I challenge you to load some VSTs with oversampling and hear the difference for yourself. Then you will know, come on man. The change is subtle but, I find it very noticeable with some plugins.
This explains it better than I could. Streaming makes it hard to notice the difference for A/B comparisons however.

It is not in RC versions, it is in dev releases.
RC releases contain new dev changes which will be in official upcoming release, but have not all features and fixes from dev versions, it means they will be later (something is in the process, revisions, etc). That's why i use only latest dev releases, because they have everything.
RC is just exclusively selected stuff from dev versions, that is ready to be released.
Try 6.43+dev1231 for oversampling, or next dev after 6.44 official release, days later.
