Has anybody answered the real question? Troubles with audio warez in Win 8.

I'm interested too. With all due respect I'm not interested in another Win7 vs Win8 argument.

 

I understand what you are saying and the reasoning behind it but what im saying is that at the heart of it win8 is win7 the only major difference is the lack of the start menu and and the tablet interface startup menu which if you are into touchscreen stuff is ideal and is way better than a start menu but all of that is superfluous to me it gets in the way of way of production all of the power user commands are in their own menu that replaces the start menu for me as far as the power user functions go really its to each his own i was frustrated with win7 i wanted my XP back but then i grew accustomed to it then i mastered it now win8 is a breeze and i have way more control over what goes in and out of my computer and no offense but if you think music making is difficult now try to program something in Csound ;) that was programming hell honestly i havent seen a single crash or BSOD since Vista (that wasn't related to an external audio device) and none on Win8 but i understand people work hard and save up money to spend on something they expect to just work and do whatever their heart desires i haven't had one computer in over 25 years that would do that (well except a win98se based frankenstein i made) anywho it all boils down to what the individual wants and what they are willing to do to make it work i love this community and this forum

 

i haven't had any trouble with any of it by trouble i mean not working ive seen alot of stuff here and there about stuff not working but personally it all works for me and im glad to be honest

 

I didn't use start button for years .
Use Launchy or Executor.
Executor is nice as you can program own keystrokes for different tasks: open folders, open programs a.s.o.

 

there is nothing like macros lol

 

i use win8x64 ever since it came out..win 8.1 now..you'll miss nothing cuz it all works good. I use soundtoys, ssl lexicon plugins...and more
cant see the point of sticking to 7 honestly.....unless your hardware prevents you to do so ...

Yeah Stardock makes some solid customization apps. Nice to hear that you guys aren't having problems with warez plug-ins on 8, it's giving me hope.

 

in my opinion w8 is pure crap,even the big bang theory has made fun of it,now if i remember correctly u still use xp,and if u want to try to save some hell of a time reinstalling everything on a new pc,i tell u that with acronis true image u can can create an image of your system that u can mount on different hardware,this option is quite recent and very helpful in my opinion,but if u don t mind and feel like using a more recent os,well,i think u better forget windows 8 and use 7

 

So much hassle because of the start button - ridiculous marketing decision from MS in the first place. But tablets are the future, at least for the mass market, so they try to force it on their customers.

But helpful topic indeed, I got the same concerns with Win8, maybe we should try and compile a list of programs which work on a Win8 machine proper and flawlessly, I mean "test" versions of course like Soundtoys, Sylenth etc.

That would be really helpful, not that "Win8 is better than Win7", "Get a Mac", "Wait for Win9" etc.

I have Win 8 x64 and have had not the slightest problem with anything. If you get a small proggy called Start8 by Stardock then it will skip the start screen. Other settings can allbe adjusted so Win 8 seems like Win 7. Win 8 has better integration within the windows. Again - all clear to come out.

 

I installed Win 8 back in January, the thing I liked most about it was the lack of latency with my audio programs, (Sonar X2 now X3, FL Studio, and TRacks Mastering Suite, I had around 10ms of latency or less, well I couldn't wrap my head around the GUI, so I went back to Win 7 Pro, until last night, I heard about the 8.1 update so I decided to give it a try, I also learned of a little program called Start8 that puts a start menu back in Win 8, I found Start8 on a torrent site and went to work, the whole upgrade took a little over an hour, it kept all of my personal files but uninstalled most of my software, no big deal for me I will just install it again, but the Start8 worked excellent!! it now looks pretty much like the Windows we all know, another program that might be very useful for you that I found as well is Yamicsoft Windows 8 Manager, there are a lot of nice settings with which to "tweak" Win 8 and make it much more like the Windows of old... I also found an activator that worked perfectly, (if anyone is interested in it hit me up,) I can upload for anyone that would like it.

So Cubase 5 doesn't work on win 8? What about Nuendo 4? I wish I had more insight on this subject,I've avoided Win 8 because I didn't like not having a start button(Which as I read they brought back in 8.1) also I just kinda didn't like the start screen and having to hit win+ d to get to the desktop.It'd be nice to know what plugins and Daw's have issues though.Also I see alot of comments on here in support of Win7 32 bit.I understand some apps and plugins don't work in 64 bit,but you can only use 3gb of ram with 32bit. I'm gonna be getting a new pc soon as well so this post is very interesting,been running Win 7 32 bit for awhile because my cpu doesn't support 64 bit.But I've tested most of the software I have on others 64 bit pc's and most of it runs on 64 bit without a problem.I was thinkin I'd prolly go with Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.But I may make my new pc a hackintosh too(done that in the past) May even have it triple boot Windows,Linux,and Osx. It's kinda nice being able to use any of the 3 natively.But the majority of any music production I'd do would be on windows.Anyway getting a lil off topic,but yeah If anyone has experiences with software not working or not working correctly on win 8,it'd be nice to know about it.Same with 64 bit vs 32 bit

 

check its CPU requirements http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/system-requirements it's stricter than there was for win 8 (so there is a minimal chance to not able to install it onto a win 8 based machine, your CPU have to support : PAE, NX, and SSE2 extensions), if u able to install, it should work (I can't see any diff. after 3 months) in the same way as win7 does it (so u don't have to play its new modern UI just intall > https://www.pokki.com/windows-8-start-menu it's free, just once: directly after the installing )

Hey Cataly5t...I also would recommend to buy this machine, install Win7 Ultimate 64bit to it and be happy. Thats what I have for 2 years now and I never had any problems. Win7 64bit runs absolutely stable...I never had any system crashes, you can find drivers for nearly everything...even older external hardware (that have no WIN7 driver) will run with a chance of about 60-70% by simply using WIN XP drivers.

 

Don't Listen to win8 haters. The start button thing is something my 60yo dad bitches about. And the rest is just bias.

The only thing Win8 fails at is gaming. Everything else works just fine, with less resources and runs faster.

As I've said before most of these haters point out quite quickly their experience with Win8 is less than 1 week of use.

As for the start button... It takes 2 days to get used to Win8 interface after that it's faster to do everything.

 

I definitely wouldn't go with Windows 8 because in my experience whatever Microsoft makes needs a few years at least to iron out. It is just too much trouble for nothing [no real gain in efficiency and performance]. Not to mention that hardware drivers [like RME, Lynx, TC, M-Audio etc.] work best with XPSP3 and W7SP1, and nobody seems to talk or think about that really, absolutely important issue. That's the first and most common rookie professional PC for audio/video installing error - go with all the latest and "greatest", not with tested and tried software and hardware that's been around for at least a year or so. Then you see those people bitch about it - "no worky! How come no worky?" and then in another thread "Windows 8 is sooooo cooool! You're still on W7??" gimme a break... Anyway, since Microsoft released SP1 for Windows 7 I started to install W7SP1 *x64* on my client's computers. It is a bit more complicated than XP, but many people need to use more RAM and that's the only reason why I do it. When there's no need for more memory than 2GB per app I still install XP SP3 x86 and these installations just fly and work excellent. Only if a client specifically asks for it for some usually garbage reason, I would install Windows 7 32-bit. That happens more and more often, but you know what? More work for me because there are more problems with Windows 7 than XP. Microsoft makes me happy.

What I wanted to suggest to you, Cataly5t is to install Windows 7 SP1 x64, of course. It's alright. There is a x64 version of Cubase 5 that works great on torrent sites that I use for my clients who don't have a legit DAW, too. Soundtoys with iLok emulator also work, x64 version. Waves x64 had some problems with graphics but they now work, too. Lots of great software now works since there are x64 versions out. However, I do notice some weird problems from time to time that didn't happen in XP/32-bit versions. x64 is just still not "there" yet, but it is a good time IMO for people who need to use more RAM than 2GB per app to jump the ship. I think that most of the remaining stability and other more minor problems will be ironed out very soon. Now even I am tempted to jump ship, but it's too much work and nothing to gain *for me*. *yes*

edit: I don't assemble and install PCs on a "massive scale", though. Just a couple per few months, for a dozen of clients, and I maintain them. So it probably can't be said that "I do it professionally", more like professional-amateur level I think, but I'm not cheap LOL, and I do have and got lots of experience throughout years all the way back to Atari and Windows 3.11 and 95. ;)
