I am using the portable version of Reaper in 2 different laptops. Before someone asks:
I am not running Reaper as administrator.
On my older laptop it works fine (Windows 10 and modified there). On my other newer laptop with clean Windows 11 OS, I can't drag & drop media files from any folder for some weird reason.
I even tried to reinstall with a new clean Reaper installer from scratch, but no luck yet.
Other than that, everything else works fine.
The only issue is just the drag & drop prohibition of media files from any folder inside Reaper.
The same thing happens if I copy paste the folder which contains all Reaper data inside, from any of the two laptops. (All good, just the drag & drop doesn't work). So there's no difference with a clean installation.
It's not a huge problem (I can live with it) as I am using the built in Reaper browser for now which works fine, but I would like to eventually solve this issue. It either has something to do with Windows Explorer, or some setting (or settings) inside Reaper. I could try changing registry values on the Windows Explorer, but this situation doesn't happen with Ableton and StudioOne for example (even if would ran them as admin). Only with Reaper. I also tried to disable the Antivirus, Windows SmartScreen and UAC but no solution yet...
I am still trying to find out what's the cause. If anybody else has any idea on how to solve this problem let me know, although I believe very few will have this kind of issue. I tried googling about it and only few others had that problem.

Have you tried another File Manager such as Total commander?

Windows 11 has broken/missing functionality for various actions including Drag&Drop. Thus it should be avoided for any work/production related tasks.

Windows 10 has similar access permission problems with the most recent updates. Usually overcome by:
    • Running app/programs as admin
    • Adding your user profile (group/username) in properties under Security.
    • Taking ownership using the Advanced button in properties
    • Possibly setting folders to read & write mode
There are some other works around but, they tend to break/disable functions in Windows 11 currently. Keep in mind that windows 11 is still BETA in the wild.

But if you run them not as Admin, as per the problematic Reaper??
Surely that would have been a better way to know?

Yeah, I tried all of those. Except Total Commander, I would like to stay with the Explorer on the other laptop. I guess it's some weird Windows 11 thing like you say.

They run without issues. That's why I wrote "even". I only have the problem with Reaper. I even tried to put it inside the C drive but no luck.
Studio One is also Portable but works fine. :dunno:
    I can't understand why... :suicide:
