Hmm. But "best update" could just be because a feature was needed for so long for a particular DAW!
Like, not an amazing new feature in the field.
So, define "best"?

 

Bitwig and FL are the only ones that have really had a big update this year, most of the rest were autumn 2020 for their last big release.

 

Fl studio by far lots of things (requested many years ago)

 

Cockos Reaper not on even on the list.

 

But Bitwig is already quite out of date. Version 4.1.2, which I think is the last, has a bunch of new features that make it truly amazing...!

 

I know and it should be who got the best update this year for free!!!! Not Cubase.

Reaper is not a DAW, Reaper is a lifestyle

 

I would say Pro Tools First, Avid even had to close the application for new account because they didn't expect the new updates will result in too many new application.

 

FLS' Channel Rack is a big lame. Image-Line's entire effort over the course of this year was to overshadow it and enhance PlayList's capabilities (due to users' demands). Channel Rack's architecture was wrong in the first place, and removing it would cost Image-Line a lot of money.

Channel Rack has precluded FLS from becoming a real DAW. That's why most people hate FLS.

 

Funny thing is that Reason still is not be mentioned as a DAW although it is one.

 

Logic got Dolby Atmos, but it also got ARA Izotope RX9 plugin extension.

 

REAPER easily wins the category for the most frequent updates this year. If all of this years updates to REAPER were added together, it would probably win this poll also. If it was included LOL.

My write in vote is for REAPER

 

REAPER with yesterday beta, which includes oversampling per-fx chain. And hundreds of other features, improvements, enhancements, fixes.

Other DAWs also get goood updates. As always. But REAPER proved for me it is best. I can do mostly everything as I want to in a best way. Stability and performance, endless fx chains, vst compatibility, editing, recording, customizing from a to z, sound engine, blah blah

Reaper's win95 style and notepad style is like "add fx as much you want" in this empty blank fx chain. It doesn't have standard 8 inserts per channel like in many DAWs... It has almost endless inserts per channel. Why almost endless? Because it depends only on your cpu/ram/performance/stability....
