I assume they're plugins that only work on Reason, kinda like the M4L devices for Ableton, but the first releases were Synapse Audio stuff, also available as VSTs.

Those weren't VSTs tho, those were Rack Extensions.
    It's all Rack Extensions : (
I'm so tired of these. Not to request anything, but there's lots of useful stuff not being released because of REs.

Probably his question is if his assumption is correct.

I can´t answer unfortunately as I am not interested in Reason at all... I was just going here as I was curious what is "flooding" the main software section there.

Yeah, as @justwannadownload said, they're Rack Extensions, their own plug-in format.

The main thing is that they expose various audio/CV ins and outs to integrate with Reason better making better interactions with other Reason devices.

Note that you can run Reason itself as a VST3 plugin if you want to try some of these out, kinda like FL Studio does.

    I get what you're saying.
I'd love to have extensions such as Reason Algoritm, Expanse, Zero Hybrid as standalone VSTs, but I think they'll never become a real thing.
So much wasted potential for a closed subscription system.

Nah that's not what I'm saying.
DECiBEL usually release high-quality DRM-free stuff, but it seems REs took a priority. Hopefully not a permanent one.

I´m really thankful, that the reason REs were posted here.
    You get so much creativity.

Take a look here how you can use Reason as midi Effect and Arpeggiator for example in you own DAW.
You can modulate and sequence all your VSTs and Samplers with this technique.

    Watch this guy:
Making really good Trance Music with Reason VST in FL Studio:

    Its fantastic.

For my ears the reason Synths sounds very warm and analog and 3D.
    I like them.

    ah PS:
    Watch this for Beats:
Sequencing drums. You can use the midi output to trigger you drums in you DAW:

It's a bit rude to tell ppl they "flood" the site with stuff only because that is not interesting for some ppl, isn't it? I mean, 95% of that samplepack stuff and/or mac stuff in general isn't interesting for me but who am i to be so ungrateful to moan about it?

To the OPs question: these are extensions for Reason. The difference between REs and their corresponding VST plugs is that those RE extensions fit/integrate fully into the reason rack, while vsts go into a combinator wrapper.

Complete agreement. Just smacks of entitlement. Boo fuckin' hoo, I don't get what I want, nobody else should get what they want. There are more than just one type of people who's interest is different. I don't like trap... yet I don't complain about the 5 billion trap sample pack releases. It's great for those that do like it. I don't (currently) use Mac but I definitely hope that those who do are happy with what they get and hope they get more interesting things too.

I do use Reason and I'm happy that it is being catered to at the moment. Bring it on

    The releases for Reason are:
    • Content
    • Refills (Sample packs, Sound libraries)
    • Rack Extensions (Effects, Instruments, Players, Utilities)

The nice thing about Reason and it's RE's is that it's self contained, meaning new addons don't write crap all over the OS like some poorly coded VSTs do for example. Reason is also rock solid (at least in my experience). Dunno about version 12 though (I only use v11, since that's what I have a perpetual license for).
Either way, I'm thankful that Reason was released to the community. Even though I support the devs, I'm a bit weary about the future of Reason for perpetual license holders.

I don't care one way or the other, but as an observer it seems like the Reason uploads always come in rather big batches. I think it is actually better that way, for the simple reason that other Non-Reason content does not get mixed in and buried. re:"flooding"

The Reason releases are really powerful and welcomed, I think the vast majority of users here are super happy. So Decibel is giving us a huge gift these days. And if you ask me about Sonnox, Soundtoys, etc, we don't know if dreams come true or not. Also because no one knows what will happen in these days. There may be something great as there may be nothing happening.
Let's enjoy what we already have, because it's HUGE

Yep, I think this is the correct answer to the OP. Among other ones.
I also was surprised when I began to see a lot of usually VST/AAX/AU plugins in Reason (rack, whatever) format

    Okay I get it, thanks.

Follow up question : when a plugin has both a VST and RE, who coded the RE? Is it the plugin devs themselves, or is it possible to port any VST as a RE?

Don't know you but I never see any Mac Reason software around after the 4.0 so...
many many Rack Extensions and Refills completely squandered and wasted :(

Perhaps it would have been better to offer the software first and then the racks? :dunno:

The coding is purely up to the plug-in devs. Any VST can be ported, but it makes no sense unless the devs want to somehow figure out the patching system in Reason.

So basically yeah, any VST can be ported, but a lot of them might not be.

R2R released the software first and then the extensions, so what are you talking about? They are all usable and work perfectly. We are talking about a codemeter release, ie Windows only software

Hi friend, do you have a vision problem? I wrote about Mac, not Win! :woot:

Triggerflipper's question is: What are the Reason RE releases on sister site?

To me they seems racks and I expressed the idea that those racks, for us Mac user, are wasted if you don't have the Reason software or if you have a good link for it just add it below... we will be happy

Then you see for yourself... anyway it would be better to limit Christmas booze :winker:
