Given that comment and their profile, that would make sense.

I collected and put it together myself. The 1 should not mean the best, but the numbers should only give an overview of how many there are. So it's not a rating. I don't want to rate anything either. It is more intended for beginners so that they do not lose their perspective.

It's not a bad list, and yeah, having it as a "rating" would imply some sort of value judgment.

It would be nice to have a "choose your own adventure"-style flowchart/questionnaire to give beginners an idea what to start looking at first. No, I'm not saying you should do this :)

Daw war is like the old coca cola and pepsi wars...bored; so better make posts about "what I love and hate from every daw I know", well kinda. You'll get constructive criticism and no enjoyable trolling:yes:

People are STILL arguing about DAW's because if they didn't, they would have to stop collecting plugins and learn how to use it and actually put out some music.

No need to argue about daws..to each his own. To me the daw decision goes like this:
    1. Workflow, or more so, what you got comfortable with.
    2. Price and customer support..for legit users obviously.
    3. Stability..crashing daws really hamper workflow!
    4. Peer pressure (you know...the industry standard argument)
    5. The gui. Shouldn't matter but it's human nature.

I would be curious, if all major daws were brand new as of today, with equal marketing, who would be the favorite.

I wanted to highlight this, because there's a lot of ways to quantify a "standard". We have givens from standards bodies like AES/EBU which define a whole lot of things, say the BWF (Broadcast WAVE) format, or electrical standards for audio transmissions.

Then we have "industry standards" like Pro Tools (like it or not) which is because it was basically the first commercial audio editing suite for computers (with their expensive hardware, of course) and it all grew from that.

Then we have weirder standards like why we have 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rates, and eventually their multiples, I'm sure we all know why these two exist.

So we have standards, de facto standards and historical standards.

Some of these have evolved (like the sample rate thing) and some are still in the past (MIDI 1.0).

But it's a given that any given 2 DAWs can talk to each other using WAV and MIDI.

However, we also have a digital (r) evolution and many new products, so from time to time you have to adapt the standards to the modern circumstances. Only that is progress. Pro Tools / Cubase then becomes Ableton Live - PreSonus Studio One or something similar.

For sure, it's a constant interplay with manufacturers/developers and the standards. Every now and then a standard gets etched into stone, but there will always be a ${VERSION+1} around a corner.

    And that ${VERSION+1} is Bitwig.

Typical Bitwig user, doesn't know how to read...

Nice grab bag of ideas there with no solid implementation. The last time someone tried that "DAW as a modular environment" it turned out to be Reason :bleh:
