I've had them for 15 years, but they don't work for mixing or mastering, I only use them for DJing.

if you can listen to headhpones in any local store, do it.
I had the chance to compare the DT 900 and 700.
It was exactly like the written tests.

The 900 was more open, but less bass. Bass was still OK
But i decided to take the closed 700.
The kicks sounded best with the 700er. I even heared some errors in kicks and missing transients and stuff in Demo tracks.
    Really good.

I have a super cheap small old Focusrite Scarlett USB interface. I just listen 1/4 Volume.
Just for this thread i turned it up to 1/2 Volume. Its really really loud.
Much Bass, Much everything, but still clean and analytic.

But mostly for listening and producing 1/4 volume from the volume knob on the Focusrite interface.

Well, the Focusrite 18i20 headphones output seemed quite a bit louder to me than the Motu 828es. The main Volume control on the Motu is an attenuator. I did not consider using a headphones amp with the 18i20. And I have used mine in certain situations with the 828ES; but not regularly needed to. I write on monitors almost always.
