i love both daws im am a Cubase User a legit user to be more direct but i have used Reaper in the past and i can really see how people love using it i love how its fully customizable ...If Cubase didn't exist i probably would use Reaper or Bitwig or Reason

 

I used to use Cubase (and have a license for an older version). It was hard to adjust to Reaper, as I think it's less intuitive, but it's quite a great DAW once you figure out how to do things in it.

 

They have different strengths..

Reaper is more about Performance and Practicality,
very handy, lightweight, fast and customizable program..

Cubase is much better if you're recording MIDI devices, or using MIDI to control external hardware..

Back in the day I used Cubase 5 for a while, but I felt it was too Rigid/bureaucratic and unstable..
Then I tried Reaper and it felt so easy/practical I just had to buy it right away

 

yeah it take some time getting used too but when u do u are in for a treat

 

I have been a Cubase legit user for a long time (from 1989 on Atari ST until 2011 or so on PC). I have then switched to Reaper and pretty happy with it. Both DAW's are pretty good but I prefer Reaper as it is more flexible to my needs, that's all and it is very subjective imho.

cubase has midi input filter which fixes my broken pitch bend wheel lol

 

also the input scale assistant feature that fixes people bad playing loll

 

I do wish I could start again and learn to use Reaper, esp ReaScript - it just seems to have so much more potential, is cheaper, fewer bugs (?) and aeons more efficient. But Cubase looks prettier (esp to Adobe users) and I'm cursed to have so much learned / ingrained! ;____; I just hope that when Steinbug ditch the dongle, Cubase will perform a bit (lot) better?

You know, the people who never make music and never get paid but still want to tell me how amazing Reaper is to use.

 

I just use Reaper, have no idea how Cubase feels but it looks ugly as fuck (and thats coming from a guy who uses Reaper)

 

When I started, I need one person that recorded and they used Cubase, so as the only point of reference I had, I got a cracked version and played a bit with it. Tried the rest, but kept going back because it suited me. Finally went legit with Cubase 7. If I was starting fresh today, would probably still use it or Presonus Sphere as you get all you need to get going for very little outlay. Couldn’t get to grips with Reaper when I tried it, but I had invested time in Cubase, so went legit with it. These days, they can pretty much all do the same thing one way or another, so my suggestion is always just choose your poison and learn it. There will always be a way to achieve the same as in other DAWs, and by investing time you spend more time creating and less looking for the DAW Holy Grail.

 

I agree that the "better" options comes down to the user workflow and need, but let's be real, although one could argue that every DAW can achieve the same thing, we have to agree that some DAWs do some things easier than other DAWs. Like, for instance, you can record and mix an orchestra using Renoise, but it will be RUTHLESS PAIN, you can chop samples to make IDM/Breakcore on Reaper but it will be painful as well, and the examples go on (I'm talking about my personal experience here, keep that in mind). So I think that, yeah, most of the things one can achieve in most DAWs in the market, but some things are easier to be achieved in some DAWs than are in other DAWs. At least that's how I feel.

i love scaler .........scaler is the best thing that ever happen to a person that don't play the piano

 

i understand Reaper does do things that Cubase don't do just like Cuabse does things Reaper can't do now we even lol
